I absolutely love this compilation. I listened to it for 6 hours straight the day I bought it, and for a great price too! Kiri has one of the most gorgeous, lush, "juicy" soprano voices I have EVER heard, and this album contains all the right arias to showcase it. What more, Kiri was in her prime when she recorded them. Every selection exhibits her thrilling high notes and fine interpretive skills. I agree with a previous reviewer- you gotta listen to her E Strano. One of the finest I've ever heard. It is second only to Beverly Sills'. Other excellent interpretations include "Tu che le vanita" from Don Carlo and "Timor di me-D'amor sulli'ali rosee" from Il Trovatore (what emotions!). The Vissi Darte is very noteworthy (there are those juicy tones again!), as is Doretta's aria and O ... Read More

This is a wonderful recording of one of Mozart's earliest operas. Even at age twelve, Mozart's sheer talents for the genre are evident. While the arias are short and simple as compared to his later works, they are still quite captivating. I couldn't put this CD down for three months! And I'm still enjoying it today. Edita Gruberova's sweet, angelic voice is perfect for her role as Bastienne, and V. Cole and Polgar are also well suited to their roles. All performers bring charm and vitality to their parts. I would highly recommend this recording to any Mozart fan, you will be absolutely swept away by its ingenuous beauty. I would also reccomend it to anyone who is just starting out with opera, because it is lively and not too heavy. This piece is very easy to enjoy.
