Before listening to this CD I only knew Pregardien from his
performances in the passions and cantates by Bach. He is one
of the most expressive evangelists. Here he proves to be also one
of the best Lied singers. This is one of the most beautiful
performances of Schumann's Dichterliebe and Lieder by Schubert
and Mendelsohn. The program is linked by the fact that these
are settings of poems by Heinrich Heine. The poems are all about
unanswered love, but are characterized by a mood of hurt sarcacasm,
which makes them stand out from other love poems of that age.

It is interesting to hear the differences in the treatments of
the text by the different composers. Most Schumann settings end
with a sense of continued longing, ... Read More

Let me just preface that I dont think this trance compilation is bad, I just wouldnt say it was all that great either. it does have a few half decent upliftng vocal trance songs on it. Most of the songs sound very commercial and almost cookie cutter like. For someone who is just getting into trance, this is definitely a nice pick up. I guess ive become spoiled because im used to listening to good progressive stuff. The vocals arent that bad either if you're into vocal trance.

This is a delightfully varied collection of pieces, from lovely ballads to lively numbers that get your feet moving. Even the teenagers in my household enjoy this CD (you know how hard it can be to find music that both parents and kids want to hear). "Coventina's Well" has gotten a lot of playing time in my home. I'm hoping to see more releases of music with this range and appeal.

You will recognize the melodies, but not right away. They will come to you like a sunrise, like some distant, longed for memory or like a dream coming back to you. For some, the music may simply be a brief, relaxing respite. But I found them too evocative to be anything but heart pinching. The arrangements are masterful: understated and eloquent; sophisticated in their simplicity, but more gut wrenching, soulful, and heartfelt (without trying) than any music I've heard this side of Mozart.

I wanted to ask what this person is trying to pull. I received a copy of the original, not the actual. Sorry, guys, but if you are not going to send the real CD, why bother?

If you value the unique, harmonious, "Folk-Rock" sound that made the Association one of the best groups of their era, this album should be part of your collection. Their greatest hits are all here, along with many of the others that, while not hits in their own right, made listening to their albums a pleasure. The #1 pop song of 1966, "Cherish", is here, along with their debut hit, "Along Comes Mary". 1967 hits "Windy" and "Never My Love" are here too, along with "Goodbye Columbus", an upbeat movie title song from a largely-forgotten "The Graduate" clone, starring the dynamic Richard Benjamin. There are several beautiful tunes that never made it to the charts, including "Birthday Morning", "Rose Petals, Incense and a Kitten", and "No Fair At All". Other great songs of note include "One Too ... Read More

DAZZLING, DYNAMIC, DRAMATIC DANIELS!!!!!!!!!!
This recording in my opinion displays more than any other the versatility of David Daniel's perfomances. He shifts easily from character to character in these oratorios, his voice always making the necessary adjustments to do so. His tone quality is even throughout his range and his diction is always clear and precise, even at breakneck speeds as in the aria from 'Belshazzar'.

Handel's oratorio style was the product of many mingled elements. Germany, Italy and England all had a hand in its formation. But the work that Handel did in the development of the oratorio alone gives him the right to rank among the greatest of those to whom we owe the modern forms of music. David Daniels to my mind has chosen six of the greatest of ... Read More
