BC was my idle as a middle schooler some 35 years ago so I was happy to pick "Chase" up after being without my vinyl recording for so long(it was "worn to the bone"). I was not as impressed as I once was:

1. "Chase" music has not aged well. Like a lot of seventies pop-rock groups (think "Styx") is doesn't hold up very well. The lyrics are trite and sometimes downright silly ("My momma was born on a swayback mule way down on a farm in Georgia...."). The organ is very late sixties/early seventies sounding. Ironically, I think BC's work with Woody Herman in the sixties is much easier to listen to and will stand the test of time.

2. The mastering is very dissappointing. I have jazz recordings done
20 years earlier that sound crisper and more alive than this ... Read More

Here you've got 3 classic offerings from this legendary fusion band. There isn't a track on any of these 3 albums that you will need to skip if you like Jazz-Rock. The least popular of these albums "Ennea" actually ends up being the best one but hey, some people don't want any fusion of prog-rock and jazz or lyrics from Greek mythology. If Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Genesis can do it, why not Chase? Considering the low price you pay for 3 albums worth of some of the best, most energetic music ever made, this is is a no-brainer purchase. However, it must be said that the sound on the 1st album still isn't where it needs to be or unfortunately maybe never will be, because, apparently, the original two-track masters cannot be found and it has to be mixed down from a quad master resulting in quite ... The first time I heard Amos Garrett was way back in high school listening to 8 tracks like his Bearsville mates Foghat, Todd Rundgren and of course Paul Butterfield and Maria's debut and thinking how hip am I that I "get" Amos and you know what I still think that now that I am 53....Joe Henry is the only cat that I've dug since that rivets me in my seat like that hanging on every twist and turn of the song...I have other favorite artists like Ronnie Lane, The Replacements, Steely Dan, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Delbert McClinton, Dr.Feelgood, Bonnie and Maria but Amos is just special and I for one am eternally grateful that he is still around. The chance of seeing him live is slim to none here in New Jersey so Dave Perry signing off with a smile listening to Amos and his darn guitar!
