82.Capri by: Paolo Rustichelli

CAPRI is a consistently strong album by Italian keyboardist Paolo Rustichelli (issued in Eurpoe in 1992 and the USA a year later). The tracks have a lot of variety, but in general reflect similar jazz/funk directions pursued by Miles Davis in the final years prior to his death in 1991. In other words, more electric than acoustic.

Which leads to arguably the most notable aspect of this album: the guest list. When Miles Davis was touring in Italy in 1990 he was exposed to Paolo's music via a demo, and was sufficiently impressed to visit his home recording studio to cut the stunningly beautiful ballad "Capri," heard here in two versions (one with Miles mostly muted, the other with him on open trumpet). I'd call that track worth the price of the album by itself, yet there's more. ... Read More

I received an advanced copy of Suitcase's second full lenghth CD for this review. I have been a fan of Suitcase for a long time.
I understand that all of the artwork and recording was done by the members of Suitcase. In my opinion this album is a triumphant labor of love made with artistic perfection. When you hear this CD you will understand what I mean.
This album captures the band as if they were playing right in your living room, they are not hiding behind studio tricks and effects that have become so common place in todays popular music.
This is a well recorded and well performed CD.
Stylisticly this album has a bit of everything in it, it has some soulful organic art rock songs that the band has become known for and a couple of ballads that feature an electric piano ... Read More

Unimpressive set of spastic art-punk exudes a suggestive jagged edge when in reality shows little musical knowledge to back any of this posing up. Q are your typical self-conscious Indie-type band who frustratingly attack their instruments and compositions before even realizing a direction in which to seek, and the best I can say about Different Damages is that it might make you bob your head in certain spots with it's immature but enticing rhythmic convictions. As annoying as much of it can be, at least they attempt to bait listeners every which way in their limited eclecticism's, and for younger experimental hipsters some of it will definitely work.

This is the first Chrome album of the 21st Century and so far the latest they have released. All I can say is WOW! This is better then I thought it would be. It actually still has part of the classic Chrome sound. This album is mostly instrumental and this is the Third full length album from the Helios Creed led Chrome. The first half is good psychadelic rockers and the second have is mainly ambient noise trips which can be very relaxing. Many standout on here include Requiem, Parameters, The Wind, The Farm, Roots and my ultimate favorite song Ghost Machine. If you're a die hard Chrome fan from the classic days (77-83) or a huge Helios Creed fan you are definetly going to want this in your collection.

I LOVE the Reducers, I really do. And just about every necessary song you'd hope appears on this compilation. So what's the problem? Whoever mixed this CD did the Reducers a monumental injustice. The moment I put the CD in, I could tell that someone botched the job. The sound is muddy and the band's spirit doesn't shine through. I have tapes I recorded of this band off the radio on a crappy boom box that sound more vibrant! I have not heard the other Reducers CD's and any Reducers is better than none, but I believe I will be sticking with my vinyl LP's and hope that somehow this abomination is repaired. The band deserves it!

They're back! The legendary Monkeywrench deliver their third full-length album in 17 years. Gabriel's Horn finds the Wrench in a rockin' mood. It sounds a lot like their last record Electric Children, with a bit more of a doomsday preaching vibe. Mark Arm's delivery is utterly classic. Since Senior` Arm's greatness is always mentioned in reviews, I'll just leave it at that. What strikes me most, is the guitar playing, and the drumming. Guitarists Tim Kerr (Big Boys, etc) & Tom Price (Gas Huffer, T.P. Desert Classic) really deliver the goods. That jangly, electric feedback sound that they've developed is at full strength here. Black Plastic Tarp, Sunnyland, and Pray Til You Sweat are shining examples of that guitar sound. It is important to mention the drumming on this record. Martin Bland, ... Read More
