Here's an excellent display for the Museum of Antique Beats. Californians had a sense of humor in this era of trance dance stuff, it was at times a strange, synthetic intersection of The Hollywood Argyles, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Martin Denny, & movie soundtrack music. Cantamilla is one of the few enduring masterpieces of the genre; Straight Up Caffeine grabs & never lets go with its buzzsaw bottom & shrieking tribal female up top; & you can come up with your own imaginary film for the moody Theme from Daisy Glow. They're all lotsa fun. Great oldies for your next party.

This soft-spoken composer and soloist with the double bass has a unique voice that capture much of the flavor of the Copland/Whitman/Ives/Faulkner view of the American sound. He is an accomplished soloist of a difficult instrument and has written a rather large body of work that incorporates the instrument he knows thoroughly. The Quintet on this recording is an especially fine example of his creativity. Scored for string quartet with double bass the piece is at once plangenty beautiful in melody and complexly interesting in harmony. The Emerson Quartet is joined by Meyer himself for this performance and together they make a true cause for the potential repertoire populariety of this work ... Read More

Her work is eccentric, often bizarre, but that does not explain her. Nor will it explain anything to say she's a musical genius, though she unquestionably is. She's a fearless adventuress in avant garde "fusion" music, but she merges her countless influences in singular ways. As her 1986 debut album, "No Bones," revealed, she was a maverick from the start.
