Like other reviewers, I was disappointed with the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack and after much searching on the internet, I found this cd. I purchased it for my father-in-law as a christhmas gift since he only listens to bluegrass. He's thanked me many times for the cd and I highly recommend it to any Kossoy sisters fans.

If you are wanting some diversity from cool jazz to hip hop...whatever...if you are into funk jazz music that can get you up and happening or just lay back then this 2 cd set is one for your collection. I must admit that this CD was a surprise in the new adventure each song takes me through, everytime I play it. Great compilation as always from Blue Note. Can't say much else good about it without sounding wishy washy...man it is one of the best CDs in my collection of over 600 CDs...

Can't say enuff 'bout this. I kinda heard alot of songs being samples off this compilations incl. "Riding High" by Faze-O (once sampled by my fav. rap group EPMD), "Mister Magic" by Grover Washington Jr. (R.I.P.) (sampled by the group Soul 4 Real for a rmx of "Candy Rain") Playing Your Game, Baby by Barry White (R.I.P.) (sampled by that hip-hop group Black Moon for "Got Cha Open"), etc. I mean alot of artists sample those songs together everybody from Mary J., Aaries, Common, Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, D'Angelo, among others. I wish they had available anywhere by goin to gemm.com, djangos.com, spun.com or any other used music store to see if this available or not. They pull it up one day on this website. I've never heard anything this good before. I'm a jaded hip-hop and drum & bass DJ. I love many, many genre's of music. And this is the best set of music i've ever heard compiled into a four disc set. If you are a true urban music lover, this will please anyone who's grown up with rhythmic music. These are the roots of urban dance music today.

Want some of the best jazz around--? Budget impaired, like myself? Fortunately, for us, there's this Blue Note Records collection of the best from favorites like Donald Byrd, Lou Donaldson, and Grant Green. Now, the powers that be at EMI-Capitol thought to get some sells of this great jazz by packaging it as a "sample this" offering to hip-hoppers/rap ranconteurs. It turns out that they needn't have done so. The various volumes and the box set with Vols 1-4 has some great work like Bobbi Humphrey's "Harlem River Drive" and Herbie Hancock's "Olilloqui Valley". The music, in other words, can really stand alone...I would urge those interested in sampling to listen to these greats not to lift a groove, but to help themselves in learning how to make their own ... I have only 2 qualms about this otherwise excellent Box Set. Firstly, it does not include the highly underrated classic,'Ocean Deep', the popular love theme from the 'Xanadu' soundtrack, 'Suddenly' and the beautiful ballad, 'I believe in you'. Secondly, this is Sir Cliff Richard!!! This so called 40th Anniversary Box Set shouldn't be housed in a flimsy slipcase box with 5 individual jewel boxes...have a little bit of imagination and some creative juices running and I'm sure the people concerned can come up with something worthy of Cliff Richard.
