This is a great selection from the period. As is to be expected, the majority of the selections feature Mistinguett or Maurice Chevalier. Even if you don't understand the language, the tunes are bouncy and the performances are infectious.

I ordered this on a whim and it is maybe th best cd I've bought in recent years. If you like Toots and the Maytals, or good old Motown sound, Slim Smith is the man for you.

edith has created a venue for herself to exorcise melancholic memories with painful melodies. there are no disguises on this collection. lonesome guitars and medicinal piano radiate the mood of broken spirits. she writes all her own songs. these ballads are definite reminders of those unbearable moments we all have to live. they are all gray sky, secluded,isolating tunes. i envision a ironical pace. i thought she was from chicago, millions and millions of people, and she sings stark loneliness

I'm a big fan of Emma Kirkby's "usual" early music repertoire, and bought this after listening to the samples. It really is quite beautiful and incredibly dramatic. I don't really understand the criticisms of other reviewers - yes, she sings it differently to how most singers do, but I really prefer it her way - her voice is pure and vibrant, and it's not so over-stated as with other recordings of Beach. In short, I love it. Buy it and as long as you're prepared for her to do it her way, you'll love it.

Being fairly new to cosmic gate, I had high hopes after hearing some of their stuff on the internet. This CD failed to capture me as much as what I had previously heard. The first CD had a lot of great dance on it and some good hard trance. The first track alone is almost worth the price of the set! The second CD however got very digital, psy and goa trance like, and simply was not what I expected at all. If you're a trance and hard trance lover (with some dance roots), the first CD is up your alley, but that second CD will simply wear out the skip button on your cd player.
