and isn't that what you want to do when you listen to music and singing? I am newly exposed to this artist and these songs, and if he can do better than this, I am sure I will be buying more of his productions. I like the musical arrangements and listen to this album often and haven't fell asleep yet. A lot of what the amazon.com reviewer says strikes a chord with me, but he should lighten up a bit. I found this to be a satisfying way to introduce myself to Pires, and for him to reach out to a wider audience.

This is a compilation of slower and more *romantic* songs largely featuring Brazilian artists and musicians off of the Stimulus label out of London. This easily attempts to follow in the mold of the Brazilian Love Affair series by the Far Out label, also in London. There's some overlap in this from their artists. But the question is, does it measure up?

The answer: Sort of. There are some good songs on this - opening up with EBTG's rendition of "Corcovado", first heard (by me at least) on Red Hot & Rio 10 yrs. ago. It's a pretty good drum & bass cut, released at aroudn the time of their popular "Walking Wounded" album. That's followed up by Cibelle's "Luisas", a pretty nice song with a 'walk in the night' feelt to it and then Marcos Valle's "Mushi Mushi" which is ... Read More

"Being given the opportunity and honor to play this divine instrument was an experience that I cannot begin to put into words. This recording, Paganini: After A Dream" contains all of the emotion, excitement, hard work, obstacles, and faith that were endured to make this dream a reality. This recording is dedicated in memory of the incomparable bassist Ray Brown and my inspiring violin teacher, Gerald Beal; and to the birth of my niece, Alexandra Collette Carter." ~ Regina Carter ~

As someone who greatly appreciates violin music and the beautiful masterpieces of classical masters Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Gabriel Fauré, I find this recording, Regina Carter's "Paganini: After A Dream," a great source of musical enjoyment especially when shared with friends who have the same ... Ray Brown and Gene Harris do a great job on this CD. It not only inspired me to practice more as a bassist, but to listen to Gene Harris and Jeff Hamilton more.

Overall, this is a great trio worth listening too. Just to enjoy as a jazz enthusiast or as a musician this is a must have. Plus, Ray Brown is a must have for anyone who loves Jazz!

FWIW, I have jazz degrees from a couple of the best music schools in the US (that & $5 will get you a Cappucino at Starbucks). IMO, Eliane Elias can play, she "digs in", her time is great, & she can sing.

Eliane Elias may be my new jazz piano hero/heroine. At least amongst younger players. It's not that her playing is the best jazz piano playing in history; it's that she "grooves": maybe one of the funkiest, most time-keeping pianists ever. Maybe out of Horace Silver? Or Joe Sample?

And the audio quality on this "Red Book CD" is truly excellent. It sounds gorgeous on my "high end" audio system.

She's not going to put Fred Hersch, or Bud Powell, or K.J. out of business of course (but they're not singers/players, & I haven't even't emphasized her excellent ... Read More
