I have been waiting for this cd. Dance Party 2006 was highly enjoyable to me. My favorite song would have to be Bob Sinclare's Rock This Party, he uses nice beats mixed with 90's dance vocals. I also really enjoy the remixes of Bananarama's Look on the Floor. It has a nice trance like feel to it as well as the remix of Kiras Against all odds, I liked the original a lot to. One song that I didn't like was Love don't let me go. It just didn't grab my attention like the others did.

Overall a very good cd! If you like previous DP cds you should have no problem with this one!

This is one of the most relaxing C.D.'s I have ever bought. The music is beautiful. It's almost as if you're taken back to a time long ago. Just light a candle, get a cup of tea, turn the music on and you're set for a restful evening.

Anyone in college in the late 60's/early 70's with a taste for humor that was by turns cerebral and sophomoric, hip and politically incorrect, satirical and surreal, loved these guys. (Certain mind-altering substances also enhanced the experience.) Think of them as the aural equivalent of one of those early Zucker Brothers movies (Airplane, etc.) - if you don't pay attention you'll miss something in these multi-layered, rapid-fire sketches. Their second and third albums, "How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All?" (not available presently as an album download on Amazon) and "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers" were works of pure comedy genius, and they never quite topped either one, though occasionally they'd come close. The thing is, often their very best ... Read More

Naxos acquired these recordings and has reissued them on separate Cds at q budget price. For some reason I can't locate on amazon the best one, which contains Phillip Langridge's superlative performance of the great Serenade for Horn, Tenor, and Strings. If youare a fan of this work, I jsut want to say that this is the greatest reading on all ocunts--tenor, horn soloist and conducting--since the one with Pears and Britten himself on Decca from the Sixties.

First off, this is my first experience with this particular opera so I have no prior bias as to the tempi and clarity of the score to compare with.

I found the tempi in general to be fantastic, but I will admit that I am an up-tempo junkie so this recording suites my tastes just fine. That's not to say that there is no range from slow to moderate to fast but at least the tempi in this production avoids middle-ground heavy mush which is the worst place for an Italian opera to languish in. I will admit that there are a few points here and there where the vocalists cannot keep pace with the orchestration but that hardly warrants a failing grade.

The music has a vibrant (mostly due to it's up-tempo disposition), engaging, and tension filled quality that suits the passionate text very ... Read More

There is much to praise in this Chandos Opera in English recording of The Flying Dutchman, beginning right away with the overture. The London Philharmonic is crisp and bright with lots of punch under the baton of David Parry. The louds and softs are at the extremes of the dynamic range, so be careful in the car. You might turn up the volume to just barely hear some taps on the timpani then blow your doors off with the next orchestral swell.

John Tomlinson sings the title role with noble clarity. Eric Halfvarson's Daland is a well-drawn treasure-seeking panderer. Peter Wedd sings the Steersman with lyrical ease. There isn't much to the character of Eric the baleful, jilted hunter and Kim Begley does what he can with it, neither stellar nor shameful.

While the Dutchman's theme (Yo-hohey) ... Read More
