This issue of this 3-CD set in 2003 was a milestone. Here are 76 sides spanning Al Bowlly's career from 1928, when he arrived in England, to his untimely death in 1941. The first disc covers The Formative Years (1928-1932) and takes in recordings with Fred Elizalde, Howard Godfrey, Jay Wilbur, Marius B. Winter, the Savoy Hotel Orpheans, Arthur Lally, Roy Fox. and the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra (Ray Noble).

The second disc is titled "UK To The USA And Back Again" and, in addition to those mentioned already, brings in Lew Stone, Monia Liter, Victor Young, Ray Noble's American Orchestra, and Ronnie Munro.

The third disc is "The Final Years" (1938-1941) which brings in also the Al Bowlly Remembers medley, Geraldo, Maurice Winnick, Ken "Snakehips" Johnson & his West ... Read More

It won't be too long that those of the greatest generation totally expire.
What will become of their beloved swing that they embraced through WWII and there after? Little did anyone know that it would all be but snuffed out, just a few years later in favor of the more economical rock and roll format. Intersound is to be commended for this digital 3 disc set, preserving the heritage of swing. The first two CD's feature symphonic treatments performed by Newton Wayland, conducting the Houston Symphony. The third is performed by the Wolverine's Big Band, who ever they are, as no background info is provided by the poor annotation. Not even arrangers or credits are listed, though everything is professionally recorded. The Houston Sym. shines on "Star Dust" giving us a Hollywoodesque ambiance. ... Read More

You're kidding, right? If this is the Bobby Hendricks I recall, he DID substitute for Clyde McPhatter after Clyde had led the original pre-Ben E. King Drifters. It was his voice on "Drip Drop" (later a Dion hit) which I took for Clyde. And yes, "Itchy Twitchy Feeling" IS important and while not everybody can do this EVERY TIME, buy this package just for that song THIS time. You'll find something else here to make up for whatever you think you overpaid for. Make sense? Does to me.
