Bon Jovis' fifth studio album sees the band at an intriguing point in their careers. They'd gotten off to a flyer of a start with their debut which while fairly flawed was a bit of a blueprint for how the hard end of AOR would sound for the rest of the 80's. Sure they'd dropped the ball somewhat with the horrid 7800' farenheit but fair is fair, they'd gotten over that speedbump to their career and become a real juggernaut of no brains teenybopper hard rock - and I do mean that as a compliment.

So when this album slithered onto the racks to some fanfare as befitted one of the biggest pop metal outfits around it was with some surprise that I beheld the quality on offer. Cherry picking from the set list here, so to speak, we get the usual uplifting `motivate the losers' stuff in I ... Read More

I'm a huge Bon Jovi fan and love everything they do, and this album is no exception. It contains "In These Arms" and "Bed of Roses" -- two great ballads written in a way that only Bon Jovi can write them! "I Believe" is a fabulous driving-in-your-car song and the lengthy "Dry County" is beautiful and moving, with a long guitar solo. Every track on the cd is a good one!
