A wonderful mix of themes and "ocean" music. Great choral work, too--esp. "What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor". You have to get up and move your feet! This is a "must-have" CD for lovers of the sea.

This boxed set is in a beautiful case with an impressive colour booklet and his comments on all the songs. I can't fault the lovely presentation, and yet as a product it falls short of what it could have been. Instead of 3 disks, why not use the space in the large box for 4 disks? And why include all the songs that every fan or even casual listener already knows? The truly fascinating ones were the demos and rarities. The set should have contained ONLY demos, rarities and alternate takes. We already have all the other songs and do not need them again! In fact I have THREE different greatest hits compilations besides this one, because I was trying to get all the tracks I did not have. I really enjoyed getting this one - it rounds out my collection and pleasantly surprised me with the guest spots of Helen Reddy and "the Fonz." My grandchildren already have memorized "Sweet Caroline" and love to belt it out. Talk about "A Diamond is Forever!" I'm a fan, took my Mom to see him many years ago, my daughters, and now my grandchildren love him. How many entertainers can boast being totally loved by FOUR generations! I popped it into the CD player and breezed through my housework. As usual, it arrived on time and in great shape and was very affordable. AND, the CD inspired me to get myself some tickets to see Neil Diamond recently in Philadelphia. What a Master Entertainer STILL! He has his own unique voice and beat, and the same gifted musicians and singers still backing him up.

I'm not what you would call a Neil Diamond "fan". I like plenty of his songs but had never bought any of his music (save the occasional 45) because I couldn't get a good batch of it in 1 spot. After marrying my wife, this box set came along with her and I'm just now taking time to ingest it. The cardinal sin of a box set is going too far: 1 disc more to fill than there is good material. By going with 3 discs, the compilers dodge that bullet. Unfortunately they step in front of another one: piling on the unreleased/alternate takes. Those typically only have a large amount of interest to a performer's most rabid fans and in that regard, this one isn't immune. Of the never before heard tracks here, only early tracks "Flame" and "Blue Destiny" (an Everlys soundalike attempt) really stick ... Read More
