Sony Japan has just released the entire Argent Epic Records seven-disc catalog ("Counterpoints" was on a different label) in remastered, mini-LP sleeve format.

The 2008 Sony DSD-processed remastering trumps all previous releases, including the BGO, Edsel, Koch & Acadia-label CD's, not to mention the pathetic-sounding Collectables and Wounded Bird discs.

It is wonderful to finally have the primary Argent repertoire in dynamically-matched sound, as all the different releases (from the plethora of labels mentioned above) had varying audio levels, not to mention quality.

And, as always, the `sleeves themselves are fabulous, all being faithful replicas of the original gatefold LP record covers (except for "Nexus", which was a single-pocket LP ... Read More

In Deep is Argent at its best. Every song on it is catchy lead by God Gave Rock and Roll to you an anthem. The album rocks with hooks galore and good subject matter. The quality of the songs tells you that the band was feeling good and creative. The rock keeps on coming and leaves you calling for more. While God Gave Rock and Roll to you dominates there is enough meat to satisfy any rock and roll animal. The band is in top form and exhibits how it grew as it got older and wiser. The seventies was a great decade for rock and this is a fine example of it.

This is a fairly good Compilation, excepting some points that need review. For one, There is too many live songs from the concert album, which did not sound as good as the songs done in the studio and of the live songs, would be better to have the studio songs. For two, There is not one song from the counterpoints album, which in my opinion is better than the Circus album, except for maybe three songs on the Circus album, which are exceptional and are Truly good Argent songs. Circus is more of a Jazz album, Counterpoints, is not quite jazz, but more modern sounds. If there were more studio songs instead of live songs and if there were some songs from the counterpoint Album, I would give the compilation 5 stars.

A sonic event in honor of the Comet Kohoutek, the nine compositions are an unbridled energy which takes Sun Ra's amazing vision to grand heights.

Utilizing a synthesizer throughout this December 22, 1973, concert at the Town Hall in NYC, Sun Ra seizes the moment with Kohoutek Intro and leads a journey through jazz, avant-garde, funk and psychedelia. A trio of selections - Journey Through The Outer Darkness, Enlightenment, Unknown Kohoutek - are captivating for the intensity that goes beyond the art of performance.

With a cosmic concept to shape the evening, this is Sun Ra at his most dynamic, as he seemingly sends urgent messages to outer space through the power of music.

This isn't the best CD ever made by anyone ever... it's just my personal favorite.

Don Solaris is stunningly inventive and original, both like unlike anything the band has done before or since. It draws together all corners of the electronic music world to create a gritty, cohesive sound that is a true joy to listen to. There's a good smattering of gritty drum-n-bass and industrial dance tracks in here, to be sure, but the real strength of the album lies in the vocal cuts, which are each different and molded around the individual voices of the singers, particularly Bond with Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing, and the ballady Lopez with James Dean Bradfield wailing about golf over a 5:4 beat. Azura is a sublime drum-n-bass cut with Louise Rhodes of Lamb as well. Most Don Solarisites like that one ... Read More

I can still remember the first time I became aware of Journey. I had never heard of them, but happened to be watching late night TV one Saturday night (either Don Kirshnir's Rock Concert or The Midnight Special" I don't remember which), when this band came on. If I remember correctly they did "Lights" and "Just The Same Way". Steve Perry had a voice like no one I had ever heard before and along with Neal Schon's guitar, Ansyly Dunbar's drums, Greg Rollie's keys and vocals and Ross Valory's bass I simply loved what I heard. The next day I went to the record store and sought out their new album at the time which was "Infinity". Although some of their later releases would fall off in quality for my ears, I really dug the "Infinity" disc and was a fan from that time on. "Time" is a 3 CD box set that covers the ... Read More
