What a great CD! Absolutely the best Neil Diamond collection to date! Only missed 5 stars due to the absense of 3 songs: Shilo, Brooklyn Roads and Done Too Soon. Other than that, this collection is the best!!

I remember hearing Neil Diamond for the first time doing Solitary man in the mid 60's.
Little did I know I would be listening to and enjoying him some 40+ years later.
Neil started his career during the 60's when you had Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and other rolk singers from New York starting out.
Diamond instead of writing about social injustice and poverty chose to write about Love and his native New York.
Neil had passion in his music and it was what made his music great.
He also wrote songs for other artists including "I'm a Beliver" for the Monkees.
I remember hearing Neil Diamond doing Play Me, Song Sung Blue, Sweet Caroline and many others.
Neil is one of the finest writers of the last 50 years, his music is known by many people. His songs ... Read More

This album is extremely well done. However, "Red,Red Wine" is NOT Neil's version but that of UB 40!SAD. Cracklin' Rosie has a very distracting offbeat recovery on the second "play it now.." "Holly Holy" is a little slow, "Brooklyn Roads" is a little fast. An extended middle 8 in " Brother Love" would have been useful, "Hello Again" is in too high a key! "Cherry,Cherry" is greatly extended..which is good once you've learned to fill in with extra verses! A better version of "Hello Again" and "Love On The Rocks" can be found on "THE SONGS OF NEIL DIAMOND" from BCIECLIPSE. On the whole, A VERY COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF EXCELLENT BACKING MUCIC!

I'm not what you would call a Neil Diamond "fan". I like plenty of his songs but had never bought any of his music (save the occasional 45) because I couldn't get a good batch of it in 1 spot. After marrying my wife, this box set came along with her and I'm just now taking time to ingest it.

The cardinal sin of a box set is going too far: 1 disc more to fill than there is good material. By going with 3 discs, the compilers dodge that bullet. Unfortunately they step in front of another one: piling on the unreleased/alternate takes. Those typically only have a large amount of interest to a performer's most rabid fans and in that regard, this one isn't immune. Of the never before heard tracks here, only early tracks "Flame" and "Blue Destiny" (an Everlys soundalike attempt) really stick ... Read More

I bought this collection because I enjoy Neil Diamond's songs and his voice. I have a few of his cd's but did not have the song "Forever in blue jeans". My husband and I like the bonus DVD in this collection. It was great. I read the reviews on this site before I bought this and was a little leery when in one of the reviews mentioned an unplayable cd in the collection. Well, try to play it in the DVD player instead. You will enjoy it.

Neil Diamond is a rare gem in the solid gold oldies of Rock and Roll.
Neil gained superstardom in the '70s with his bombastic concerts and his determined top 40 hits. But there was a truer Neil before then

In the mid/late '60's, Neil wrote/ recorded songs that squeeked the edge of Pop and Punk. His early recordings on Bang records evoke a time and place. That time of a young man being a believer and the place of the new. Listen! a year period produced "Cherry Cherry" "Solitary Man" "You Got to Me" "I Got the Feelin'" "The Boat That I Row" "I'm a Believer" "Thank The Lord for the Nighttime" "Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon", "Red Red Wine", etc..

This is early Neil at his best, stereo and hard to find. Latter day Neil found him on UNI then Columbia, and with each new ... Read More
