This is a delightful production of a famous classic. The stories are enjoyable in their own right and underneath the music provides a great introduction to musical themes, instrumentation, and structure. Our three year old daughter wants to hear this on every long car trip, and we do too. Sting is an elegant and charming narrator to Peter and the Wolf.

this disc is pretty killer. i owned it when i was a kid, and re-discovered it recently. now if i can just find that copy of Psychefunkajazzadelic to go along with it...

This isn't a bad collection, but as anthologies go, it's far from complete, and there are some glaring omissions ("I Wish I Was Your Mother" from Mott years..."Michael Picasso" from Ian's solo years). For the same price, one would be much better off getting hold of Mott the Hoople/Ian Hunter's JOURNEY: A RETROSPECTIVE. It's the same price as this collection and has three discs...and is a much more comprehensive overview of Mott/Ian Hunter. Plus, for the same price, you get 53 wonderful track (instead of the 32 songs on this collection). The extra 21 songs on JOURNEY: A RETROSPECTIVE go a long way towards filling in the gaps by including songs that are both essential & marvelous.

Quite a disc. It's been growing on me since I've picked it up on a whim after seeing Logic a while ago with MMW. Some of the songs are appropriate fodder for downbeat compilations, others are danceable self-contained jam tracks. Definitely pick this one up.

You know, with a cover like this you think the music would be good. Unfortunately, the cd is lacking somewhat in good music. Specifically metal. There are only five, that's right, count 'em, only five metal songs on here. You get an excellent song from the Agony Scene, another from Norma Jean (great band), a song from one of the greatest nu-metal bands, Demon Hunter, a powerful and strong song from the mighty Living Sacrifice (r.i.p.), and an all right song from Soul Embraced. So, where is all the metal? Where's Extol? Well folks, Solid State has sold you out to the almighty popular emocore. Now there is only three emocore songs on this disc. Believe it or not, I actualy like the Underoath and Beloved(us) songs, I didn't realy enjoy the track from Dead Poetics, it's just to whiney and mediocre. ... Read More
