I recently pulled out my Danielle Dax discs for the first time in years for loading into my iPod. The freshness of her recordings makes me realize how ashamed I should be for neglecting them. Really, neglect may be a bit strong. After all, she competes with about another 4,000 selections in my personal music collection. Ms. Dax usually enters my domicile late at night while entertaining friends, especially in the guise of Dark Adapted Eye.
Dark Adapted Eye was my first introduction to Ms. Dax when it was originally released on vinyl LP. I was hooked with the opening rocker, Cat-House; the sonic equivalent of a lap dance from a white latex and lace clad vixen from London's Soho. The CD contains nine more tracks than the original LP, culled mostly from the previous release, Inky Bloaters, ... Read More

It is good to see this album back in print, because Danielle Dax makes excellent music, and most of it is unavailable in stores. But all of the tracks on this CD except for one ("Born to Be Bad") also appear on her 1988 release "Dark Adapted Eye", which also features 9 additional songs. Although Danielle's releases on the Sire label appear to be out of print at the moment, if you have made it this far, it should be easy enough for you to click over to "Dark Adapted Eye" and purchase an inexpensive used copy, rather than paying import prices for this little gem.

4.Comatose Non Reaction: The Thwarted Pop Career by: Danielle Dax

At the height of late 80's post-punk, when alternative was on the rise, one of the artists that never found a home with a wider audience was Danielle Dax. Another brilliant band similarly overlooked was The Bolshoi (and perhaps Xymox), but that's another story for another day. While cranking out highly intelligent, creative songs that had catchy pop sensibilities, she struggled in total obscurity. Weird, because everyone who was familiar with her loved her. The word of mouth press was fantastic but it never got beyond that. Outside of the Goth hour of any decent college radio station (and no, she's not really Goth) I never heard Dax on the radio. Not once. I'll never understand that.

Dax' style incorporated elements from a diverse array of genres including punk, folk/acoustic, Middle-Eastern, dance, metal, ... Read More

A pretty upbeat collection, I would imagine to introduce the unfamiliar, or placate worried parents. The regulars are there like FOTN, Bauhaus, Killing Joke and Sisters Of Mercy, even though Andrew Eldritch is now an "Industrial Groove Machine", and denounces the Goth label. NIN give the listener a soft introduction to Industrial Goth, and Alien Sex Fiend harken back to the Post Punk days. I found it in a charity shop years ago, it's great to have in the car if you don't want to bring all your albums, and a good introduction for young kids sick of the older, gnarly Goths pulling rank by talking about the good old days of Full Tilt at the Ballroom.

I first heard this CD in the fall of my freshman year in college. I was searching for a school to transfer to when a friend recommend that I listen to Frank Bongiorno. I borrowed the CD and listened to a few times in a row. I was taken on a journey of musical enlightenment that I had never taken before. Frank's control and command of the Saxophone surpasses that of many. I was so impressed that I moved to Wilmington, NC to study with him. I quickly realized that he is as good at educating as he is performing. This is a must have for any classical buff! Might I also add that Frank takes charge on the Jazz side of the saxophone as well. You all should find your way to Wilmington, NC to listen to this wonderful musician.

This album is one of the best out there. It's a beautiful mix of romantic piano pieces and lush orchestrations with the St. Olaf Orchestra! It makes me feel so warm and cozy, and I just smile and forget everything else going on in the world for a while. Give this album a listen, you won't regret it! I love it more each and every time I listen to it!. And Bradley's vocals are impeccable! My personal favorites are FEEL, JEWEL, BLUE ROCK ROAD, ROBBINS ISLAND and THE PASSAGE. Oh, I love them all!

Accelerate can be one of those albums which fans, upset with R.E.M.'s last few releases, may judge too highly, throwing out words like comeback just to describe a vague adult-rock, easy going consistency in a way which almost insults some of their finer intricacies.
