I bought this collection because I enjoy Neil Diamond's songs and his voice. I have a few of his cd's but did not have the song "Forever in blue jeans". My husband and I like the bonus DVD in this collection. It was great. I read the reviews on this site before I bought this and was a little leery when in one of the reviews mentioned an unplayable cd in the collection. Well, try to play it in the DVD player instead. You will enjoy it.

I was at the series of shows from 1986 where this album was made. I couldn't wait for it to come out. Part of the problem is false advertising. While most of this was recorded at the Greek Theatre in 1986, some of it was from the Mountain View Music Theatre in northern California. I give it two stars only because it does capture the feel of a Diamond concert just a bit. Still, other than, I am I Said, Cherry Cherry, and Hello Again, the songs are simply butchered. To make it worse, the album is poorly mixed. If you want later Diamond live material, checi out "Greatest Hits 1966-1992, or Stages. Avoid "Live From America" like the plague.

I just purchased this 1986 Neil Diamond effort and I found it to be an enjoyable collection of 1980s adult-contemporary pop,with the synth-heavy title song,a pair of EW&F's Maurice White-helmed tracks("Stand Up For Love" and "Angel"),the David Foster-produced power ballads ("The Man You Need" and "It Should Have Been Me",the latter written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance) and the lovely "The Story Of My Life" being the highlights.It may not to everybody tastes,especially for those who prefer his early work,but most Diamond fans should add this to their collection since its pretty cheap($6.99-7.99).

I'm not what you would call a Neil Diamond "fan". I like plenty of his songs but had never bought any of his music (save the occasional 45) because I couldn't get a good batch of it in 1 spot. After marrying my wife, this box set came along with her and I'm just now taking time to ingest it. The cardinal sin of a box set is going too far: 1 disc more to fill than there is good material. By going with 3 discs, the compilers dodge that bullet. Unfortunately they step in front of another one: piling on the unreleased/alternate takes. Those typically only have a large amount of interest to a performer's most rabid fans and in that regard, this one isn't immune. Just love the CD! All of the tracks are great. The selection of music is perfect,everyone of my favorites. If you are a Neil Diamond fan you have to have this CD!!!!
