Not too often does one find a whole collection of songs that hold together as well as these do. Eddie Vedder's strong, resonant voice adds a grounding counterpoint to the lightness of the jangly guitar. I especialy loved Rise Up and Guaranteed, but so many are wonderful.

Amongst a multitude of incredible session players (including a young Joni Mitchell and her future husband) Gordon Peterson proclaims his lyrics like a troubadour not matched before or since. There is no hyperbole good enough for this rhythmically clever, crisp collection of tracks. At once mournful and celebratory of life, especially life in rural settings (consider the grinding wheel, the reference to harvests, and natural beauty), it's an album all should have, no matter what your musical preference.
