I've only listened to this one a few times, but enjoyed her
previous CD. Her voice has a similar tonality to Astrud Gilberto,
but with the technical flair of a Susan Baca. The voice doesn't
stand out as a unique voice per se, but she combines a strong
jazzy approach with a very listenable breeziness that makes
repeated listenings a pleasure. That breathless style is a
bossa nova archetype, but she not only executes it brilliantly,
but wraps her voice in spare arrangements that incorporate other
world music elements. A real keeper.

I've been debating 4 or 5 stars on this review. I do consider myself a Neil Diamond fan, but I am a little disappointed by this collection. Jonathan Livingston Seagull is unrepresented, and it does not include "Crunchy Granola Suite" which was on the original "Hot August Night". (The guitar riff from it does show up on the DVD when it looks backstage at the tour, but I still feel gypped.

The quality is good, and it captures the excitement of the performances. The DVD concert from Ireland is also good. However, Diamond seems to sing for half the songs and shouts out the lyrics for the other half. Maybe he's trying to be the next Rex Harrison ("My Fair Lady", the original "Dr. Doolittle"), though Rex just spoke his lyrics as opposed to shouting them.

The behind the scenes is fascinating ... Read More

This could serve a purpose for those who don't read music to learn the tunes. The singer sounds OK on some songs, but her renditions of "All the Pretty Little Horses" and "Rock-a-bye Baby" were horribly sung. The book has beautiful images and is a real keepsake. If you are looking for a fabulous voice with great emotional feeling in it, get someone's grandma to sing from the book.

Have enjoyed the recordings of the Vancouver Chamber Singers in the past, and believe this to be be the best so far.
The music is very demanding and the choir tackles it with beautiful intonation, delightful phrasing and a rich vibrant tone.
The music of Stephen Chatman is engaging, entertaining, and refreshing. His music celebrates life up north with wit, eloquence and clarity. If you are a choral music buff - or a singer or choral director - this recording simply cannot be passed up. I recommend this CD enthusiastically.

This CD does a great job of interpreting the music of John Rutter, one of the masters of choral music. All the songs are well balanced, and never overpowered by the accompaniment. Some of the tunes are so well performed, that some sections sounds like single voices rather than sections. Kudos to Nicol Matt and the Nordic Chamber Choir for an excellent work!
