Although I checked to see what songs would be in this 3 cd box set before ordering it, I was disappointed none the less to realize that some songs were not as I thought they'd be. I find I listen and enjoy approximately one third of what's on the cd's rather than the majority of the songs. My time is spent skipping over more than half of the tracks to get to a song I really do like. Some of these songs are not all disco either, but I want to make it clear that I listen to and appreciate all kinds of music. For the amount of money spent on this box set, I would have liked there to have been more songs that I would have been interested in.

Great CD although as mentioned by an earlier post from 3 years ago the CD is mislabeled. There is actually a song the do not show on the CD, Fields Of Green and Skies of Blue with vocals should be the 7th track and then the rest of the tracks will me moved down a notch making 16 total.

Staffors's voice has a creamy tonal beauty that make her singing immensely listenable. Her strength's as a singer are particularly evident in the many love song from the forties where the sultry yearning behind the lyrics and lush orchestration are a perfect medium for Stafford's lustrous tone and superb breath control. There is nothing forced or melodramatic in her approach to a song; she has none of the affectations common to many singers of the day and delivers a solid beautifully crafted performance on each piece. Frank Sinatra was one of her biggest fans and its not hard to hear why. My favourites? Autumn In New York; Walkin' My Baby; Haunted Heart; Georgia; Say Something Sweet to Your Sweetheart. ... When these gems are sung by Eydie, the old adrenlin starts pumping. Most of the broadway songs on this cd are the type that didn't get put into show tune tributes. These basically are novelty and/or character songs that advance the musical's plot. It's great that Streisand isn't the only singer that can belt out this type; so, can Gorme. Really My Funny Valentine & Hello Young Lovers are the 2 cd exceptions of having lives apart from their shows. With Valentine, Eydie has the best version slowly expresing her love for the oaf & ending with an impassioned high note. Babs goes through the song too quickly to get to her Wagnerian end. Eydie's version is only lacking in that she doesn't repeat the bridge, leaving that to the orchestra. There are 6 Richard Rodgers melodies in this package ... Read More

I purchased this set originally for New Faces of 1952. Being a fan of most musicals of that era I was not disappointed. I found the original cast recordings to be excellent and a perfect introduction to Broadway Shows.
