1.How Lovely Is Christmas by: Bing Crosby, Mitch Miller, Golden Orchestra

I actually still have the LP...which I ended up having to record to a cassette. I loved it all those years ago, and now the kid loves it along with the grand nieces/nephew love it too.

It's a bit of fluff, fantasy, and the music with the story-telling is classic Bing, as comfy as snuggled up near the fireplace by the tree with him and his pipe entertaining all of us.

I only wish we could get a CD format for the recording.

This wonderful 2-CD set gives you, first: A marvelous story and song transporting the listener back to share the joys of a boy's Christmas, both imagined and real, in frontier America. My mother, who is now gone, used to play this album endlessly in her festive home at Christmas, and so now I've been able to re-connect to my own deep tradition in a very special way and share with young Jethro the joys of his Christmas once again! Second: On the other CD is just Bing Crosby's matchless singing of all of our Christmas favorites, headlined by his immortal, smooth and rich "White Christmas". Taken altogether, this is truly a Christmas album for the ages!

This seems to be one f the better installments in the Chandos series of classic operas in English. Frankly, it's a retrograde project, given that it took decades to convince the English to hear operas in their original language. But Figaro is full of wit, so an excellent English translation could be fun. Here, it's mostly not. The translation is fairly literal and clunky, showing no attempt to exhibit native English wit.

The performance is a warm, traditional one, which is refreshing. The characters sing with British accents, and that's damaging to the Latin flavor so essential to the household setup and class divisions. All the singers are pleasant without being first rate; they tend to be too polite iwth both the comedy and mock melodrama. In all, this was worth one listen, but ... Read More

When the Met did its first production of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites in 1977, there was only one recording of this opera available in the U.S., the one recorded during the composer's lifetime. Then came a video from Australia in the late '80s, a spiffy new CD set from the Lyon Opera in 1992, and with the composer's centennial in 1999 several other videos and soundtracks, including ones in German and the original Italian (for the La Scala premiere in 1957). It was Poulenc himself who wanted the opera to be sung in translation, and Chandos has honored his wish by committing to CD a fine production by the English National Opera. This succinctly-titled version uses a new libretto with numerous subtle revisions that make the text easier to sing, e.g., the safe house has been moved to "five, rue ... Read More

Okay I will be honest and admit that I am a 90's R n B fanatic and when I actually listed to the samples on this site I was thinking to myself that Dalvin sounded bad. But since I am a lifelong Jodeci fan I decided I should buy the album anyway espeically since the used copies were so cheap. First let me say that his voice is much more crisp and sounds alot better on the actual CD. Next, after listening to the album a few times I am convinced that for this solo project Mr. Dalvin has been getting a bad rap from those folks out there who chose to write negative reviews. I think the problem is that when people purchased this album people were somehow wishing for some Jodeci magic. But just like many other artist who leave their groups to pursue a solo career, Dalvin decided to carve his own nitch and do the type ... Read More
