Before Truman Capote became a parody of a fallen artist in The Lost Generation, he could craft the written word with precision.

The selections stand alone as a triumph of Capote's pen and his skill in utilizing the spoken word to deliver poignant meaning to sections from his classic, In Cold Blood. The music by Mychael Danna adds a poetic punch to what is truly a special collection of what remains a tour-de-force in American literature.

Pianist and musicologist Katharine Boyes enriches our world with this cd, which benefits from her excellent performances and notes. Boyes' idea to focus on women composers' music that is related to Nature's seasonal cycle is brilliant! She introduces new composers--e.g., Estelle D. Rickettes or Akemi Naito--as well as new works by familiar names--e.g., Amy Beach's "Farewell, Summer" or Fanny Mendelssohn's "December." What becomes clear in Boyes' hands is the sensitive and powerful music these women have written and also the affinity for Nature's rhythm these composers displayed. Perhaps Boyes' cd should be required listening in ecofeminism courses. It certainly should be for all who seek a stellar performance of captivating new music!

What a disappointment! This was the first Simpson CD I've ever purchased and it is terrible. I watch the Simpsons all the time and I know there are many many great songs on the show. But did they pick any of those great songs? No! It had way too much talking on it, and a couple different Simpson theme song paradies. The songs were short, I guess I was hoping they would elaborate on the songs a bit more. There were only two songs on it that were fun to sing along with. I based my CD choice on the reviews of this product and I don't know where those people were coming from, but this CD is not the one with all the good songs on it, so pick another one or build your own off itunes.
