The final installment of the Ring Cycle has got the be the longest one here: a total of 310 minutes! Not even James Levine's version is as slow as this. But it's not necessarily a bad thing. If I'm in the mood for very slow Wagner, then I'd choose either this or Levine's. If I'm int he moood for fast and energetic, then it's definitely Bohm. But anyway,

Reginald Goodall and the English National Opera have done a splendid job here. The English language is appropriate here. I don't mind the change in text, but I still prefer Stewart Spencer's English translation over Andrew Porter's translation that's present here.

Singers make this a plus. Rita Hunter and Alberto Remedios can be best described as "awe-inspiring". They'll literally leave you breathless. Margaret Curphy ... Read More

As with all the Coil Live releases, Live Four contains "Amethyst Deceivers". As you listen to each version from one to four they become increasingly more beautiful, culminating with the best version by far on this album. One of my favorite tracks off the set of four live releases is "The Last Rites Of Spring" off this album. Believe it or not, Coil even does a song by Sonny Bono on this one, "Bang Bang". Live Four ends as all the albums in the live set, with Jhon Balance climactically exorcising /exercising his demons as the rest of the band draw blood from their synthesizers in an all out aural assault. It is easy to believe the tales of Jhon being mentally as well as physically spent after live performances when hearing these examples. This CD is probably my favorite of the Coil Live set, ... Fans whose main exposure to Coil has been the "Moon Music" of Music To Play In The Dark and the Solstice/Equinox releases should probably start with either this CD or Live Four. Thus said it is impossible for me to recommend just one Coil Live release without urging the acquisition of the complete set. Each is different enough to stand on its own yet remains but a piece of the complete representation of the recent history of Coil that makes up the Live set. Like Live Four, this performance has a variety of old, recent and brand new material and features Pierce and Massimo of Black Sun productions.

A wonderful idea, putting out a succession of live albums. You can chart their progress and listen to their live prowess grow. Live Two, like the entire series, is essential to understanding this great group.

A great live recording -- the sound quality is top notch! Highlights include a piano cover of 'Bang Bang', 'I Don't Want to be the One' with Balance's pained wailing vocals and the epic finish 'An Unearthly Red' which is a kind of mechanized-sounding dance song with the repeated refrain "God told me to do it". Must own for Coil fans!

Not only is this the best of Coil's 4 season releases, Ametyst and Hierophant are two of the best songs in their entire career.

Nice little seven track compilation of the late Steve Peregrine Took, who as most of you know was Marc Bolan's partner in T.Rex for their first three albums. Dug the acoustic cuts here "Amanda", "Strange Sister", "Still Yawning,Still-Born" and "Beautiful Deceiver". Also thought that "Peppermint Flickstick" was a totally hip psychedelic number(great guitar riffs). Plus, "Boo! I Said Freeze" is a good rocker and "Steel Abortion" soulds like a slightly rough mixed (but, listenable)Pink Fairies demo. Line-up: Steve Took-guitar,acoustic guitar&vocals, Larry Wallis-bass&backing vocals, Dave Bidwell-tambourine and Phil Lenoir-drums. Should definitely appeal to fans of the Deviants, Pretty Things, Pink Fairies, Twink, Syd Barrett and possibly even the Ramones.
