Emmanuel is probably the most gifted musician in the folk/country acoustic guitar genre. He performs at a level reminiscent of the late Lenny Breau. Center Stage is an affordable two disc live recording and well worth getting if you love acoustic guitar music. I knock a star off for material -- Emmanuel's original instrumental compositions are beautiful and sometimes even challenge his audience but his covers tend to be predictable and crowd pleasing. Instead of "When I'm 64" wouldn't it be cool if his Beatles medley included "She Said She Said" or "Tomorrow Never Knows?" A minor quibble about a very fine recording.

For fans of James Taylor, this is an odd looking album. The cover art is bright, the pictures inside are less than flattering, and the general look of it seems at odds with the warm, country roads type feel of J.T.'s music. Even the music is a little more electric than usual. But don't dismiss this album so quickly. Even the songs that don't seem right on the first listen will grow on you.

It's got the sweet, mellow tunes we've all come to know and love (Millworker, Chanson Francaise), some great mid-tempo stuff (B.S.U.R., a re-working of Rainy Day Man), classic covers (Carole King's 'Up On The Roof' and an interesting version of the Beatles 'Day Tripper'), and some originals that rock a little more than usual (Company Man, I Will Not Lie For You).

This is definitely ... Read More

You cannot improve upon a classic and that is what this songbook attempts to do with many Beatle tunes. This was done by producer/remixer Giacomo Bondi with the help of a Beatles cover band, the Apple Pies, The aim was to give a jazzy-lounge feel to these songs and also to record them with modern multitrack techniques and remix them using the latest studio techniques. The vocals sound very much the same as the originals, there is not much reinterpetation of the songs. Some of them seem to have a more contemporary beat to them. Sometimes lyrics are dropped or abbreviated. I found these remixes to be less rocking than the originals, less vibrant and closer to easy listening. I was a bit disappointed because I thought the lounge mix would be more like the exotic "space-age bachelor pad music" of Esquivel ... Read More

This album showcases the reasons why David Coverdale never made it big in the years between Deep Purple and his Pop Metal days. You have to love the voice (one of the best in hard rock history), you have to hate the cliche blues rock, the uninspired arrangements, and the often stupid lyrics (even though Trouble is still fairly light on the lame macho lyrics that would dominate Whitesnake's following albums).

Trouble contains three good songs: "The Time is Right for Love", "Love to Keep you Warm", and "Take me with you"; the rest is mediocre blues rock that really hasn't aged very well. I'd give Trouble 2 stars on account of those three very nice songs. With the addition of four tracks from the great Snakebite album, as is the case on this edition, the rating increases, but given the fact that ... Read More

read the description carefully ..... it looks like there are 2 discs in this package and there is only one .... the cover tunes are ok for a Beatle cover band ..... but we don't even know who the band/bands are ... no paperwork ... no credits .... I've seen CDs that were a compilation of different bands doing their take on the Beatles and they were different and original ...... there is NO originality here ..... stick with the Beatles, yeah, yeah, yeah
