If you ask me, the artists of the 1970's produced some great pop music. This fine CD gives us eighteen tracks to help us remember the good old days; and younger people may very well be turned onto this music when hearing this CD. The album hardly has a dud in the bunch. Barry White's "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe" has great percussion, sound effects and strings to bolster Barry's excellent performance. Barry speaks the opening lines and when he starts to sing this number really takes flight! "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe" makes me want to dance every time I hear it. Of course, Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" is a highlight of this album; he sings this to perfection and the guitars help the number a whole lot. Rod never sounded better. Muriel's Wedding is set in Australia, with Australian actors and Australian social mores. The movie has some upbeat moments and we are happy at the end that Muriel is converted from what her father dooms her to be, to what her wonderful self realizes after many not-too-helpful detours. What i would add as a note of caution for family viewers this movie has some very explicit sexual references and one scene at the beginning that would have been better left out. It could been a thoroughly edifying movie, despite some of the dysfunctions involved but unfortunately, because of the R-rated material, it fell short of its potential.

I've already lost count of the times I have seen this movie. And every time I laugh and cry, sing and dream. "ABBA" is here to stay and the film plays tribute to this great band. Muriel wants a married life and is ready to do whatever it takes to make her dream come true. She settles in Sydney and starts a journey that will change her life forever. It's beautiful to see how situations change a person's perspective of life and the pain and sorrow of past mistakes can make wonders. True friendship is always present and a different kind of love comes her way: the love of support and understanding. Toni Collette is just fabulous and I would recognize Rachel Griffiths later in "Six Feet Under". They are great actresses who bring life into a character. And that is always a pleasure to see.
