After you've seen Neil Diamond in person, and have all his original CD's, Box Sets, and have seen his movie, then this CD does not compare. However if you want to hum along or sing along with this easy listening CD then it is for you...I enjoy just listening to the songs at night...along with other instrumental Neil Diamond tribute CD's.....I even have a L.P. record a D.J. sample, with an interview with N.D. You follow the scrip on the record cover to ask Neil questions, then he answers them....great for recording to tape, as one would think you were sitting right there interviewing Neil Diamond....so I like anything by Neil Diamond...even this CD....

I remember hearing Neil Diamond for the first time doing Solitary man in the mid 60's. Little did I know I would be listening to and enjoying him some 40+ years later. Neil started his career during the 60's when you had Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and other rolk singers from New York starting out. Diamond instead of writing about social injustice and poverty chose to write about Love and his native New York. Neil had passion in his music and it was what made his music great. The only reason to get this album is if you're a hardcore fan of Shane and you want to get songs like "Danny Boy" or "Cracklin Rosie" but most of all of his good stuff is on "The Snake". Don't bother with the CD or "Crock of Gold" either it is depressing since his songs are slurred with the years of drug and alcohol abuse he is famous for. The songs are lifeless. I know his hardcore fans don't like to admit this but he was washed up on "Crock of Gold". If you don't believe how sub par his songs were to the Pogues listen to the Pogues version of "Rake at the Gates of Hell" and his version. Enough said.

I bought this collection because I enjoy Neil Diamond's songs and his voice. I have a few of his cd's but did not have the song "Forever in blue jeans". My husband and I like the bonus DVD in this collection. It was great. I read the reviews on this site before I bought this and was a little leery when in one of the reviews mentioned an unplayable cd in the collection. Well, try to play it in the DVD player instead. You will enjoy it.
