The four names listed as performers are actually composers. The performers name is currently shown as part of the title. The instrument used is carillon, but this recording does not show up in a search for "carillon". Hence I recomment showing the performer as "Aime Lombaerd [carillon]".

My old vinyl version of these arias used oboe in palce of violin and I especially liked that substitution -- but I adjusted to this version pretty easily -- these are fresh, almost intimate. Sampson's is not a rich voice, but I think her style suits the meaning of these arias well. Not sure about Sampson's German though, but that's not a major issue for me.
Overall, "four stars."

I was having a bad computer day, and in a bad mood. Then I downloaded this album. Listening to it made me smile and forget my computer problems. The music, which of course is great in and of itself, was executed with joie de vivre and great panache -- a really lilting rhythm. Highly recommended.

Very enjoyable recording; I can't speak for accuracy of these transcripts since I'm not familiar with the originals (except Bach's Sonata No.1,BWV 1001 for violin, which sounds great), however this is very nice classical guitar album. Bourree Anglaise is very beautiful too, and so is the rest of the album. I surely like guitarist's performance as well as overall technical quality of the recording. I do own some Segovia, Williams and Yates CD's; Enno Voorhorst's CD is definitely going to stay in my collection.

These are excellent performances on a modern flute with harpsichord accompaniment. I don't think there's a better set of modern flute performances of these pieces available -- I even prefer Feinstein to Rampal, who in this music seems to be rushed and superficial, a bit like a Heifitz of the flute. Feinstein has a huge, gorgeous sound, great command of his instrument, and musicianship enough not to glory simply in the pyrotechnics. He shines especially in the partita, where his great breath control and supurb phrasing lets him spin the lines with an elegance reminiscent of Szeryng's great performances of the solo violin sonatas. In fact, Szeryng would be a good comparison for Feinstein: elegant, noble, and beautiful, if a bit emotionally cool.

As to the sound: this is the dilemma ... Read More

This is the best performance of these works I have ever heard. One reason is that the harpsichord has been replaced by piano and the cello replaced by bassoon. Don't misunderstand me, I do love the other recordings I have with harpsichord. But this fresh approach of using piano and the unique and wonderful choice of bassoon for the bass line is an extraordinary listening experience. For me, it was like hearing these works for the first time. The clarity of the melodic lines and the interaction of the flute and the piano reveals nuances not easily heard on harpsichord. Not only the instrumentation is extraordinary, the performances are outstanding. Beautiful phrasing and dynamics; I found the performance breathtaking. This recording is excellent on so many levels that it has risen to the top ... Read More
