1.Tito Beltrán:Romantica from: Silva America

Tito Beltran's 'Romantica', which I found in the old power plant culture house at Baltimore's Inner Harbor 4 years ago, is a ravishing exposition of a melting tenor striving at his best. What caused me to buy it was the fact that his repertory consists of 3 of Jussi Björling's Swedish favourites, 'Till Havs', 'Ack Värmeland, du sköna' and the originally Danish 'I de lyse nætter' (Swedish: 'Sommarnatt'), all sung in Swedish, his second native tongue. His tone rings beautifully, and apart from his at times overwhelming vibrato I find his version a refreshing and sympathetic alternative and artistically a parallel to Carlo Bergonzi: a humble artist who tells stories in song without overshadowing his art.

If you're a fan of country and western, you got to be a fan of Gene Autry who needs to be considered one of the founding fathers of the genre.

This CD captures some of his classics e.g. Don't Fence Me In, The Yellow Rose of Texas, Mexical Rose and 21 others.

On top of this good collection of music you also get a full length feature movie, Man from Music Mountain. This 1938 classic includes plenty of action and even more singing from Autry (4 songs by him and 1 by his sidekick Smiley Burnette). On top of that there is a 1965 documentary from the famed comedy team of Wayne and Shuster entitled "Wayne and Shuster Take an Affectionate Look at the Westerns", a very enjoyable 50 minute bonus.

This is a superb collection of Joe loss recordings from 1933-1956 with excellent sound quality and beautiful music, primarily highlighted in the first CD.
Every 1930s song grabs you by the heart and spirit and twirls you around and around, so by the time you catch your breath, you realize they just don't make music like this anymore. So enjoy "South of the Border" and "Amapola" sung by Monte Rey, as well as "Change Partners" and "Begin the Beguine" showcased by Chick Henderson. We can all keep alive the romance and whimsical magic of thirties music by owning this CD set. It's wonderful!
