Finally the Donny and Marie albums have been released on cd. I grew up with them and had the hugest crush on Marie. I loved their music and their television show. I saw them in concert 3 times. These two albums were my favorite. The first does have some cuts from earlier releases but it was their first venture into more current pop music and had all the songs from their show. It does have them doing more solo work than duets but that is fine for it leads into the masterpiece NEW SEASON. Right when the vocals start on AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING you know they have come into their own. The song and their voices combined are magical. It is hard to find covers like Kashmir with Ann Wilson and Roger Daltrey, this CD begins with a circa 8 min long version with outstanding orchestration and Daltrey efforts to reach the notes, but his voice even now likes me more than Robert Plant's...well, that's the reason i don't like Led Zep but the covers indeed.

Note: this is an excellent album from a movie about a real 'school of rock'. The students actually rehearse and perform real rock songs with 'real' stars -- songd that the rock stars made into hits. It should not be confused with the soundtrack from a similarly titeld movie featuring Jack Black. IN the other movie, Jack black plays an obnoxiously useless lay-bout who fronts a no-talent band, but somehow lands a teaching job. That movie, and the soundtrack, are both atrocious. This CD featuers a mix of well-known, and obscure songs, which are in many cases done better than the originals. I must be going through a "retro flashback" because I find myself after 30 years enjoying these songs all over again. I enjoy them now, but I'm glad this cd is the original recordings and not new recordings of their old songs. After all this time, I can still remember the words! They all have aged gracefully. And I'm so glad we can get their music again. At one time, it was very hard to find.
