There are a lot of bad "Sound Effects" CD's out there. Most are transparent rip-offs of the BBC's multi-volume public domain set, only with bad transfers, digital noise, and bad cut-offs.

This isn't one of them.

This CD is a gift-pack of period vehicles (horse-drawn, mostly), with a leavening of other period sounds, all clear and detailed and just ready to be dropped into a video or used to set the stage in a theatrical production (which is where I've reached for this CD, over and over, as a theatrical sound designer of twenty years experience.)

Not exhaustively complete. Not even a great variety (despite strangeness like the bits of WWII aircraft noises). But just enough, especially if your goal is to put a little period street traffic outside the ... Read More

"Supernatural Superserious" is the token hit, and "Hollow Man" is decent. The rest of the cd is just noise, and the dvd is utterly worthless. Jeez, I thought the dvd would at least have some concert footage or something, but I guess it's just there to justify a higher price!

Ghost Circus is the project of Chris Brown from the USA and Ronald Wahle from the Netherlands who met on an internet message board a few years ago and decided to put out an album after discovering their mutual interest in progressive rock music. They both recorded their parts in their own countries before mixing and mastering everything. The result is Cycles, a strong debut, especially considering it's just two people performing on it. The music presented on this disc touches on the neo-prog elements heard on earlier Marillion albums, lots of synth-friendly AOR pop, and a plethora of other bands, such as Kino, RPWL, and Frost.

It begins with the mood setter "Broken Glass", introducing a curious mix of heavy keyboards, a pronounced bass and drum combination, and Chris Brown's mid-range ... Read More
