The album is a good listen and the album is cohesive. Perhaps too cohesive as the album loses some impact if you listen to the songs out of order or in random play.

This is the only Boards of Canada album I actually bought when it was released. Although I already owned Geogaddi and Music Has The Right To Children, they were purchased after finding out about the duo (based from the northern coast of Scotland) on Amazon. Their music has an experimental, unique sound to it, beyond what most people would expect from electronic music. Electronic music has always been about experimenting with different sounds, and BOC has once again filled track after track of soundscapes that are eerie and beautiful.

There is nothing to say here that a 5 Star reviewer has not said before. It's the best effort in a commendable series (DJ-Kicks)and stands atop the always worthy Thievery Catalog. It is also the most electronic of the compilations and creations they have assembled.

This is the first (and probably only) time that I will ever say something along these lines, but..... The NINTH installment of this series may just be the best. That is something you never ever see in another series (talk about Buddha Bar IX, yuck). Anyway, this CD has it all: 1. Some of the best transitions between songs in the entire series. 2. First rate songs. 3. Great selection, the songs are very diverse, yet are mixed to feel deeply intertwined. I have owned this CD since June, so I know my opinions are solidified, however, with the deeply subpar installment of costes 10, I am praying that Stephane has somethng much, much more solid planned for the imminent release of Costes 11. I have bought many Putamayo CD's and this one is by far the best one. It is full of great songs with deep and clear instrumentation. Even if you do not understnad the words as some songs are in Hindi, Uzbek and others; it is still very nice to listen to. All my friends like it and is good for background music at a party and for easy listening when relaxing. A must have for any world music collection.

The day after I bought the US version of this excellent CD, I was lucky enough to find a cheap used copy of the original EU version on the Continentica Records label. It has two songs not available on the American edition (but does not have the US CD tracks "Travel in Time" and "Timeless"). The two import-version-only songs, "Someday" and "Se Meg," are both written by Kate, and are every bit as good as the rest of the songs on the CD. Buying the import for only those two songs, which add up to under 10 minutes, might seem crazy...but won't after you hear them.

We recently saw Goldfrapp at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This band is outstanding in concert. From their first release in 2000 (Utopia) they just keep evolving. Getting better and better.
