I attended a Garage-a-Trois show in a large bar/club and was blown away. I went not knowing what to expect (and a little put off by the name - is that a play on the phrase menage a trois?). I was only familiar with Skerik's Critters Buggin of which I only knew the radio song.

These guys are some very technically skilled musicians. Charlie Hunter can play his combination bass and guitar better than the devil can play the fiddle (he plays the bass line and guitar rhythm at the same time!).
Skerik makes some strange sounds and fascinating sounds with his horn that you probably can't learn in any formal way.
The other two fellas (I forget their names) keep the percussion side of things very groovy. I don't think there was a person in the bar that wasn't bopping and grooving to them. ... Read More

This is a massive three disc set, although I suspect if they used dvd9's they could have squeezed it onto two discs. It chronicles his career through music videos, live performances, studio sessions, interviews (of Krush and others), and assorted clips Krush's work from 1994 to 2006. He must of carried a video camera with him from the start because there is tons of footage from all kinds of locations, but not professional footage. Krush comes off as a deep conscientious artistic pleasant and intense hip hop artist. His work is displayed prominently with plenty of music contained on the discs.

If you are a fan of his music, you'll love this beautifully packaged set. And if you are new to his music but love hip hop, you'll find plenty to enjoy here. If you don't know Krush and don't like hip hop, why ... Read More

This song really stands out, I keep forgetting that its Royksopp. It just sounds so different to me. I wish they would do more songs with lead singers from other bands. Getting the lead singer from "the Knife" for this song was an awesome idea.

The Herbaliser are a Jazz/Funk/Hip Hop duo from the UK, and listening to their new CD "Same as it never was" is like stepping back into the seventies to some Blaxploitation movie. Loads of horns, groovy basslines and funky beats.

Opening is the title track which is largely a funky instrumental with darting horns, organ and an incredible bassline. There are 3 other instrumentals; "The next spot" (with an almost Afrobeat feel), the awesome "Amores Bongo" (a delightful guitar/horn/percussion mix that sounds like it should be some movie soundtrack), and the more mellow "Blackwater drive".

Five songs feature vocalist Jessica Darling, "On your knees", "Can't help this feeling", "You're not all that", "Clap your hands" (these four are retro funk ditties James Brown/Sly & The Family Stone-style) and ... Read More

This is supposed to be a singles collection not a best of collection. It says right there on the front cover. The Chemical Brothers had 12 singles hit the UK Top 40 between 1992 and 2003 and two of them are not included on this CD. Why? If you're going to release an album of singles you might want to include the ones that were most successful.

Still a good album anyway.

Sorry, but this is one of my least favorite DJ Krush albums. It feels like an unfocused, random pile of singles rather than a cohesive album. Which would be fine, assuming all the tracks were great, but they're not. Some, of course, are pretty phenomenal, since it is DJ Krush, after all. The others are subpar mostly due to some questionable guest artists, and there are some uninspired beats in here too. All the rave reviews make we wonder if the reviewers own many other Krush albums, because this one feels diluted in comparison. I'd go with Jaku and Krush's first album before this one. That said, this album still has some high points, and it is DJ Krush, so 3 stars.
