I really like what Mike Patton did with Faith No More and what he does now with Dan the Automator (ex. Lovage - Music to make love to your old lady by). I hated his "noise" experiments with Fantomas, Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle. Now with Peeping Tom, the tracks are actually songs, but they're just not any good. The guy has mad talent and I like his voice, but he stepped up to the plate here and struck out on all tracks. Not a single decent one you'd want to listen to again. All the 5-star reviews are straight Patton fanboys that would give him 5-stars for punching them about the head and upper body.

While Thievery Corporation's first full album is less sophisticated than their later outings its rawer, less "crafted" style means that its best tracks have a distinctly more exciting edge. "The Glass Bead Game", "So Vast is the Sky" and ".38.45" just jump out of the speakers with their highly infectious mix of electronica, hip-hop & dub while "Shaolin Satellite's" drivingly addictive beats and multi-layered swathes of organs & sitars put it up there with the very best of the whole electronica/dance scene. Others drift, often much too languidly, between genres giving a rambling and disjointed feel to the album as a whole but, if you're a fan of Thievery Corporation or of high quality downbeat "world" music then what's good on it is too good to miss.

Found this group in someones best of list on Amazon. Wow! They are already my 2nd favorite band. Hungry Lucy is #1. A very unique singin voice that works perfectly with the kind of music they generate. Lamb has a fuller sound to them than other electronic music bands. They also have a lighter air about their songs. Great songwriting, varied experimentation, and great sound effects. You get a DVD with this album that is one of the best music DVD'S I've seen. A real enjoyable treat. I hope they are still together. After all I am just discovering them. This is great talent and a real positive buzz.

In 2005, Bjork Guomundsdottir (I'm not spelling that again.) continued her streak of relatively organic albums with Medulla. The preceding Vespertine was a huge success, an achingly beautiful album with more individual style than even the vastly successful Homogenic. The concept for Medulla was to make an album comprised completely of vocals and vocal samples. These voices are not bare, and are given electronic lifts and touchups throughout, but still, the vast majority of the album is spent exploring the human voice, the world's oldest and most direct musical instrument. This album is alright, starts off with more of a feel like Maxinquaye not Nearly God. but it just ddidn't live up to the hype that was around it. It's alright, but don't expect it to be as good as his first two. Get something like blow back, because at least he's experimenting with some different sounds. But here, it's just rehashing.

I was really excited when I heard that Portishead had released a new album. The whole thing sounds like a half baked effort. I listened to it one time and then tossed it in the trash. Yuch

This is a fabulous party album. I discovered Groove Armada with Love Box and fell in love with them even harder after hearing this compilation. I never tire of hearing Madder and Easy, and who wouldn't want to be dancing with "I See You Baby" pumping in the back ground!?!

3 1/2 I was kind of disappointed when i first heard this back in the day. Coming off of their quintessential pleaser TWM, Synkronized seemed to continue pushing towards radio-friendly funk and soul at the expense of better songwriting, making the impressive interplay and arrangements found on their first few releases even less prominent. But time has been kind to this release, and a fair amount of tracks attest to Kay's street-pop sensibilities, displaying an elegant simplicity in the always-reliable production which does prove less is sometimes more.

..except for a small number weak tunes and the odd 'short blips' between full songs, this is a wonderful CD. Favorite tracks include a very hip 'Corcodova' by Everything but the Girl and a wonderful duet by George Michael and legendary girl-from-Ipanema, Astrud Gilberto. Maxwell, the David Byrne/Marisa Monte duet, Cesaria Evoria and Caetano Veloso are also outstanding. I taped the video of this album when it first came available in various PBS channels on VHS. Unfortunately the quality is poor especially on HDTVs so I wish MTV through it's original producer, subsidiary MTV Brasil would someday make a DVD available.
