Simply put, this may be the best 'new age' CD ever recorded. This is their magnum opus, and contains the most beautiful piece of music ever recorded in my opinion, the hauntingly splendid and emotional Hymn to Hope. No matter how many times I hear this song, it touches me deeply. The entire CD is wonderful, highly recommended for anyone who simply desires for music to take them to another place, a much higher place.

Richard Thompson at his most dour, which isn't a knock, just a heads up. From a tour supporting the tough and luminous POUR DOWN LIKE SILVER, always one my favorite albums, these performances cover a lot of songs from that record, arguably improved by Dave Mattacks' authoritative drumming and John Kirkpatrick's masterful squeezebox. But being an electric band they steer clear of the more delicate material and that leaves Linda sounding a bit out of her element. One exception is an almost pop reading of "A Heart Needs a Home", a great song better served by a starker setting than here (see WATCHING THE DARK). Anyone who came of age in the late nineteen sixties would remember and love this album. Great tunes and lyrics. Donovan is a poet.

An excellent product. My memory of the old vinyl disk from which it derived ("Farewell to the Greys") is that it was better, but this one is excellent all the same. Probably the bands have become so famous since the first vinyl record they have gotten a little 'stale' with thousands of performances.

If you enjoyed the movie "In Bruges" as much as I did, then you know a big part of the movie's charm was its lyrical and haunting score. So as soon as I finished watching the DVD, I ordered the soundtrack CD off Amazon, ecstatic to hear the full-length versions of the movie's amazing music. Unfortunately, I did not get the full-length versions as I had hoped. Rather, I got a collection of 1-minute-ish snippets of the music cues from the movie. Look at Amazon's track list. Aside from the songs from other artists, you will see that all tracks except two are less than 2 minutes long. That's simply not enough time to develop a motif into a fully evolving musical piece. this guy was actually my second concert ever (the first was The Melvins). the collection is nearly flawless and to really appreciate RT you need to see him live and get into his ridiculous British humour. "cooksferry queen" and "52 vincent black lightning" on one CD?!?!?!?!??! are you kidding? if you are uninitiated, get initiated now. SCHNELL!!!

Outstanding music and musicians. One of my favorite CD's ever. This combination of the violin and cello brings new sounds to the musical world.

I don't speak french, but that doesn't really matter. The music on this one is amazing and touching, almost other worldly. This is my favorite christmas music of all, and I've sent it to friends as a holiday gift.

I bought myself a CD player/alarm clock combo for the holidays..so I could wake up to music and not a jarring alarm sound ( dreadful way to face the day!) Just to test it out, I grabbed the nearest CD which just happened to be this Windham Hill compilation. Well, let's just say its been the ONLY music in my alarm clock since, and there it will stay! There is NOTHING like waking up to the opening strains of discs one OR two. Like meditation music...with an uplift! Fabulous! Wish I had thought of this years ago! I keep the music on whilst getting ready for work, and it lends a lovely, peaceful tone to my day. GREAT variety of tunes and instrumental talents! Bravo Windham Hill! Lisa in CT
