Most of the songs on this great album were written in India while the Fab Four were studying Transcendental Meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in early 1968. This is also the first album in which not all four Beatles participated on every track. Yet from an artistic standpoint, they remained very strong, although not every track here necessarily was.

Back In The USSR-A rock song by Paul. One of the albums' better tracks. Ringo had temporarily walked out so it's Paul playing the drums here.

Dear Prudence-Written by John and named after Mia Farrow's sister who John said meditated too long. Again, Paul plays the drums.

Glass Onion-A throwaway song by John about people reading too much into his songs.

I'm gay but there's always been one woman for me: Chrissie Hynde. OK, so I spent a few years in Purgatory (Ohio) but she's always been my rock'n'roll savior. I hadn't spent much time with her for many years until this one came out, and now, once again, I'm drinking the kool aid. This one goes all the way back to the first album, with raw energy, punkish rage, but also some shamelessly sappy pathos. Chinese Plastic and Break Up the Concrete can put to shame ANY rocker out there. the ballads make me cry like a little girl. Lucinda Williams hit this point after toiling in obscurity for years; Chrissie RETURNS to this point after years of triumphant rock and roll. If you're out there, Chrissie, will you marry me?

Yes. Wrong again, you people who say there are no hummable tunes here. The CD is loaded with beautiful hooks, one right after another. As a matter of fact, I'm humming one right now. Do do, do do, do do, Given that Heaven away.

It's a shame a five star album turns into 3.5 because people don't share the same worldview as Jackson. Thing is, he's always been a left leaning idealist,I think. Never wavered in all those years. You, on the other hand, have. Bought the SUV and voted for W.

15.Day After Tomorrow by: Joan Baez

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Day After Tomorrow
I have listened to Joan Baez songs since I was in grammar school and I am just as much in awe of her voice now as I was then (the sixties). Persoanlly I appreciate the more religious tones of the CD. After the recent political roller coaster that we have been on it is nice to be able to sit down, listen to music that actually talks to our thoughts, and relax our spirits. To those who say her voice is off key, I have been in church and heard old voices off key, trust me, Joan's voice is dead on perfect. I was able to attend her concert in Tuscaloosa in 2008 and was amazed at how awesome it was to hear her in person.
Joan, you go girl, keep singing till the Good Lord calls you home.

I haven't been able to stop listening to this CD. I love it! It is perfect for a winter night. Each song has the unique flavor only Sarah McLachlan can give. Beware that The First Noel is pretty different, but it is awesome! And I love her take on What Child is This and In The Bleak Mid Winter. Very good CD. I highly recomment it.

I bought this as a replacement to my original. I was so disappointed that after the 3rd time trying to get used to it I threw it into the back seat.
Don't get me wrong, I really like his music. But I'm really stuck on the original versions and I believe I'm getting ripped off when what's on the disk isn't what I expected. They should have put on the cover that the songs were all remakes or refected tracks or whatever.

19.Comme Si de Rien N'Etait by: Carla Bruni

I was curious to hear this CD given Bruni's notoriety over the years. Overall it's a dull outing. The production is virtually identical from song to song, with Bruni's average voice (sounds like a French Dido) mixed far forward with almost no reverb in every song. And there's nary a backing vocal or harmony track anywhere on this CD. Just the same presentation song after song. Was the producer asleep?

And the writing? Well the first tune, "Ma Jeunesse", grabbed me until I realized it's a virtual carbon copy of the Beatles' "For No One", down to the French horn solo. (Paul & co. should sue for copyright infringement.) Beyond that, I didn't hear any great melodies here.

Overall she'll remain more famous for her "off the record" activities...
