Kate Voegele is a talented young singer and song writer. Much potential as she continue to grow in her musical career. Her vocal may not be the strongest, but have a sweet delightful tone and will improve with time. She reminded me a little of a young Carly Simon... Appeared to play the guitar pretty darn good too. This album have a good vibrant pop quality and decent ballads... Too bad the CD version does not include the "Hallelujah" song which is available on MP3.

I remember back in the early 80's going through the (Cut-out)section of (albums)at my local music store,if any of you are old enough to remember those.I came upon and purchased the LP Slug Line.It was my first John Hiatt record.I now have some 14 of his albums and each one is better than the other. His musical skills and experimentation continue to awe me and his writting just blows me away. The lines he comes up with are just so real and true,I ecspecially like the one about "a few less brain cells and a lot less hair".
John Hiatt is like a fine wine,he just gets better with age.

I'm a certified Christmas-music junkie, so I only allow myself to purchase two new CD's each year. So, naturally, I'm very selective. This CD turned out to be everything I could have hoped and more. A nice mixture of traditional carols, religious and secular, and all delivered in the melodious tones Jewel delivers. Love it!

With the exception of the last song on the disc (Oh, Had I a Golden Thread), these songs were recorded live as Eva Cassidy performed and sang them -- no overdubs or substitutions -- and they sound great. Her voice is wonderful, bright, crisp and clear, and she has a way of making each song her own. The recording also includes her introductions to the songs. If you have her other CDs then you owe it to yourself to get this live set.

I suppose after the success of John Wesley Harding Bob Dylan thought going back to Nashville and recording another album was a good idea. I'm wondering if all these years later, if he still feels that way. I know the album was a commercial success, that "Lay Lady Lay" was a top ten hit as a forty-five, but, for me at least, there is something missing here. This is a happy record, recorded by a happy man. At least that's they way it seems to me and that's not the way I like to think of Dylan best. I see him as, if not a leader of his generation, a poet at least. I love the dark lyrics of his earlier work. Love the work that comes after "Nashville Skyline," well not all of it, but most of it.

The recording of "Girl from the North Country" with Johnny Cash is interesting, but out of place ... Read More

Van Morrison's 1970 album "Moondance" has always been acclaimed as one of the best albums in the history of rock music. Whilst of itself that distinction means little to me, in the case of "Moondance" there can hardly be a more fitting description for what stands as the most remarkable example of the blending of dense, funky rhythms to pastoral folk music settings.

All through "Moondance", Van Morrison's deep mystical sense, inherited from living in the rich, fertile "Emerald Isle", stands strong in a manner that grips a listener forever after a single serious listen. The upfront vocal of the simple, dreamy opener "And It Stoned Me" might be soft in tone, but it sure packs both a punch and the ability to create the most evocative sort of imagery you will find in music history. The title ... Read More

I'll cut to the chase...

As a lifelong Simon & Garfunkel fan...lets be honest. The arrangements and performances of the Central park concert were pretty lame. After seeing it I figured that perhaps they were simply meant to stay in the studio..

Then.....I reluctantly saw "Old Friends". The arrangements were the best I had heard...some surpassing the original studio versions. Much more energy to the music.....far superior to the bland concert in Central Park.

Don't waste you money on this one....unless you need something for your insomnia.

I used to love this album in the late 80s and early 90s, but recently started listening to it again after a long hiatus (my wife hates TW, it ended up). Let me say this album is something of a minor miracle. It's hard to describe how evocative it is, but there is something about the coupling of the musical production and the lyrical imagination that is pure magic. When Waits creates the character of the American soldier on shore leave, who talked baseball with a lieutenant and shot billiards with a midget until the rain stopped, who bought a razor and some gum and knife and a t-shirt with horses on the front, the ambiance is enhanced by the clinging cowbells, thumping bass and other musical innovations that bring this scene to an almost theatrical life.

Unlike today's iPod culture which encouraged ... Read More

The best three songs from this nine song collection are on the box set. Strip away those three and the rest of "Madman" ranges from album cuts that do no damage to rotten exercises in filler. Were I to pluck a fourth track for the box set it would probably be the album closer, "Goodbye".

That's not to say that the box set snaps up all desirable Elton John tracks. "Tumbleweed Connection" is an excellent album, much more consistent than this one, and is woefully underrepresented considering that the box is a 4CD set. And once you have the three choice cuts from "Madman" via the box set, the single album live set "11-17-70" would be a much stronger addition to your collection for this time period in Elton's career. That album of Elton raucously burning down the house back in his nightclub days is entirely unrepresented ... Read More
