I've been a die-hard Ani fan for 12 years. I buy each album she puts out without question, and will probably consider to do so, hoping she will shock and awe me as she once did in the days of Dilate and Little Plastic Castles.

Red Letter Year seems to be at the bottom of a downhill slide that started when she began playing with the voice-synthesizer and instrumentals. So much of Red Letter Year has been so overly-synthesized that you can barely hear her voice, much less make out what she's saying. Sure, some of it rings through, and you get those wonderfully Ani lyrics, but, despite much searching, I can hardly find anything here that reminds me of why I love her.

Normally, I find one or two (or three or four) songs per album that I replay incessently for weeks and ... Read More

112.This Is The Life by: Amy Macdonald

"This Is The Life" is a very folk like Celtic album, deep with roots and blossoming with some great song writing.
People will compare Amy with KT Tunstall (and in a way, also to the never forgotten young Tanita Tikaram), that's for certain, but did KT Tunstall write an album as good as this when she was at such a tender age? I think not.
Comparisons with KT are inevitable. For a start, they're both Scottish, articulate, gorgeous, gifted singer songwriters, produce beautifully balanced pop - and ooze attitude.
The only real difference is young MacDonald appears to care little for the Tunstall leg-warmers!
As said, there is also, certainly, a striking resemblance to the young Tanita in Scotland's bright new pop hope, another serious-minded teenager with the kind of husky, world ... Read More

Blood on the Tracks (1975) may not be Bob Dylan's greatest album, but it is certainly his most perfect. There isn't a single wasted moment on this flawless classic, and as it intently flows from start to finish with scarred passion and fresh acoustic beauty, it presents the listener with a clear image of the isolation, resentment and (sometimes) vindication that Dylan seemed to be experiencing at the time.

I wouldn't exactly call Blood on the Tracks a concept album, but the theme of a relationship that has fallen apart is apparent in nearly every song here. The collapse of Bob's marriage to Sara Lowndes is said to be the inspiration for the album.

One of the things that sets Blood on the Tracks apart from many of Dylan's other albums is the sheer beauty of it's sound. The wonderful ... Read More

Have followed Joan Osborne since her salad--or should I say "Relish"--days, and have always loved the breadth and depth of her sound and the range of her musical choices. With this release she is coming into her own and has clearly mastered the art of the song and the science of songwriting. Her voice is rare--at once sweet, pure, and edgy--At a recent live show (a must do!)...a friend characterized it as the sound of "sugar cookie dough." Wow! Perfect.

This is album is a win-win situation. For Oberst, its a break from the well orchestrated and intricate Bright Eyes. For fans, its another amazing album from the younger generation's greatest troubador. Oberst and friends headed to Mexico to record this album and it definitely shows. The whole record has a very loose feel to it. The songwriting isn't as perfected as you would see on a Bright Eyes album, with lines like "When they drive the cars up and down the beach/its ridiculous and everybody knows." Overall, however, this is another enjoyable Oberst album.

Worth the price to just have the Randy Newman tune from Toy Story 2 'When She Loved Me', and 'Rainbow Connection'...

It's when Mclachlan tries to impress that you feel kind of embarrassed for an artist of her stature, like the awful 'Just Like Me' with Run DMC... at least her collaborations with Cyndi Lauper and Emmylou Harris work...

But just in case you think she's gone all soft and MOR, she tries to resurrect the dance hit 'Silence' to remind you she's still got her kickass sensibility... perhaps arguably so...

What can I say except that the man is a genius. After listening to and enjoying the covers on the soundtrack of I'm Not There I was inspired to listen again to the original and was taken on a journey back to my youth.

From tapes compiled during the early-1990s festivals for musicians at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, producers Stephen Hague, Karl Wallinger and Gabriel put together an outstanding retrospective from the events.

The list of musicians put the "world" in "World Music," and include Papa Wemba, Billy Cobham, Wobble, Wallinger, Sinead O'Connor and Hukwe Zawose. Gabriel takes the lead vocal role on several tracks, but he is more like a super-glue that brought the artists together to share their styles in a considerably looser atmosphere than typically found in recording sessions.

The U.S. release was facilitated through a venture-capital trust initiative, hence Gabriel (finally) had control over the production and content. This is straight from Gabriel's heart and is a celebration of the wonderful colors ... Read More

If you have Solo Accoustic Vol 1 than you will enjoy Vol. 2. However if you dont own Vol. 1, I would suggest you buy it as it has more of the well known hits. Jackson Browne has great songs but this album is more of lesser known material. If you like accoustic music in general than you will really like this album.
