It was already time for us to get a live album from the best kept secret of modern metal. Nevermore have got some extra visibility thanks to their inclusion in the first Gigantour, and I think the guys will make this situation even better by releasing this double CD. This one will for sure please their ever growing fanbase.

Every Nevermore album is represented in the setlist. In the booklet it is written which song comes from which album. The artwork is superbly dark, loyal to the Nevermore artistic image. It's just a shame that it has this "unfocused print" look that's so common in Century Media releases. Besides that minor flaw, it's just perfect. They even included several pictures of their fans, which is kind of cool.

About the music itself now, you bet Nevermore ... Read More

Since I was first introduced to Evergrey's totally unique brand of dark progressive metal with 2001's In Search of Truth, I've anticipated each new Evergrey release about as eagerly as I would a new Dream Theater album. I've only once been (mildly) disappointed with a new Evergrey album, but since that happened with the band's previous effort - 2006's Monday Morning Apocalypse - I was a bit apprehensive about hearing 2008's Torn for the first time.

That apprehension lasted roughly 30 seconds. From the very first moments of album opener Broken Wings, it was clear that the band is back in their element. Torn is the logical follow up to Recreation Day. It's not as singularly focused as the epic (and utterly brilliant) Inner Circle, nor is it as unfocused as Monday Morning Apocalypse. ... Read More

I love all these hardcore undertones in the melodic sound of the strings. Beautiful arrangements.

I've had this album in one form or another since it came out in the 80's, so I've had plenty of time to listen to it, and I've come to this conclusion:

This is one of Megadeth's angriest and fastest albums, if Pantera defines heavy metal agression, Megadeth defines the heavy metal tantrum. The riffs are complex, the beats are fast, and the songs are hard and angry. Make no mistake though - this is a very technical group of songs played well by virtuoso musicians.

The writing isn't quite up to par with later work on "Rust in Peace" and "Symphony of Destruction" - there are no single songs that blow me away. All of the songs follow a similar pattern of building up from a slow intro more often then not into a thrash metal grind-fest. For that reason and others, many of the songs ... Read More

I'm going to keep this short because I would probably end up repeating the same thing thats been said over and over again by other reviewers. Quite simply....it's a good cd, but it's not a good In Flames cd. If you like Clarity and Sountrack, this is right up your alley. If you like albums like Whoracle, and you haven't heard of these guys yet, check out Dimension Zero's "Silent Night Fever." It's Glenn Ljungstrom and Jesper Stromblad of In Flames and Jocke Gothberg (ex-Marduk singer/drummer). More of an old school, Swedish melodic death metal sound. Makes you wonder why In Flames can't still tear it up like these guys...

For years I have been looking for a re entry point into the metal scene and for the most part the filth and violence, I can get that for free on television, that form the themes of too many albums has been off putting.
I came across Dream Theater at the suggestion of Amazon and then had Paradise Lost presented, the 30 second limit on previews not withstanding, I purchased the album and have been very pleased with that purchase. The idea of a theme album for me goes way back to Rick Wakeman and this albums inspiration taken from Milton's work just add to its great appeal to those with literary sensibilities.

The guitarwork is blistering and the drumming thunderous. Unless you are craving sleaze you should enjoy this album. Its great there is a section of the industry for people who, like me remember the beginnings ... Read More

I have to begin this review by admitting that I am a huge Nightwish fan. I like practically everything that they put out with little exception. And, like the entire Nightwish fan nation, I was extremely concerned when they dismissed long-time singer Tarja Tururnen. Even though the new singer, Anette Olzon, has proven that she has what it takes to be part of Nightwish, the band will never sound the same again.

This EP, which was only released digitally, includes three early demos from "Dark Passion Play," two B-sides, three orchestrated "Dark Passion Play" songs, and a remix of "Bye Bye Beautiful."

The three demos on the EP are "Eva," "The Poet and the Pendulum," and "Reach (Amaranth)." These demos were recorded before the orchestra part was added, so the orchestrated sections are supplied by keyboards. They ... Read More

It's that time of year again-Time to go and buy some eggnog(most of it you'll end up throwing out), buy a tree, go into debt buying gifts and pulling out those copies of Silent Night, Deadly Night and the Trans Siberian Orchestra. And as much as I like TSO, I still tend to go for this, a much bleaker view of the holiday season.
The criminally underrated Savatage's second full concept album is really something special. It centers around war in Bosnia around Christmas. Not the most cheerful of holiday subjects, but it does have a positive ending and should maybe make you think about just how good you have it around Christmas regardless of how bad things may seem.
Guitarist Al Pitrelli is brought into the fold and can definitely hold his own. Musically it's the big, emotional, orchestral and Broadway-esque type of hard rock/metal ... Read More
