Taken in its entirety it is not among DT's very best albums. I own all the DT and LTE studio albums because I am a huge fan, hence the 5 star rating, that's because nobody on this planet compares to the skills these guys have. But just like Octavarium some tracks are outstanding, and few will not be on your mp3s play list. Probably not one of their albums you will listen to over and over from beginning to end, but still amazed after all these years that there still isn't anyone else out there who can come close to DT's level of talent.

Appropriate that a whale is the subject of much of this albums focus because Mastodon's sound is as massive as a whale. Mastodon sounds like nothing else, yet is perfectly accessible. I don't even think you need to like metal to like this album. If you like the song samples, get it. They are a pretty good indicator of what's in store. This album is very easy to like. It is pretty complex and consistent, without a single dud to be found. If you like this, also check out Blood Mountain. These talented men pull it off again on that one. Definitely worth your time.

Back in 1976, Rush was a much better live band than studio band. The live versions of "2112" and "Something for Nothing" leave their studio-born siblings in the dust. The same can be said for just about all of the tracks here. Heck, I even like this version of "By-Thor and the Snow Dog." I'm not a huge fan of Phase-I Rush, but the energy here is contagious and the album is a lot of fun to listen to.

And what would a 1970's-era live hard rock album be without an extended drum solo. At least we get to hear one of the greatest rock drummers of all time on this one.

Lordi's "The Arockalypse" rocks you from beginning to end. I can listen to this album many times and never get bored. Every song on it is great with a few true standouts that seal the deal. Lordi is having fun doing what they do, and you should have fun listening to them.

Personal picks:

The Deadite Girls Gone Wild
The Kids Who Wanna Play with The Dead
Hard Rock Hallelujah

I love this album plain and simple, and this is coming from a guy who lives for death metal like kalmah, amon amarth, mors principium est, insomnium, meshuggah and much more.

this album is choc full of great riffs and awesome vocals, in fact, im starting to think this is the kind of vocalist in flames are trying to imitate. well there later stuff anyway.

all in all this is a great album and in my opinion much better that as daylight dies. check it out!!

This is what the title says. I can never get bored of this CD. The maturity and musical orchestration weaved with the melancholy of Tolkien's tale is nothing short of magnificent. If you read the book (The Silmarillion), this will not only sound good, but cut at a deeper emotional level. An album to be cherished!!!

Dream Theater fan since 92 Images and Words Will be till the day I Die. A band that can only be compared to one other in the world. Led Zepplin of of the early nintys. Take no prisoners style of writting music and no compromising the songs.
