WOW..this is a really good album. A nice blend of progressive metal with death metal. This is the direction Soil Work and Inflames should have gone into. Too late now though, this band brought up the talent on this album and blew those two bands clear out of the water. The imagination on this album is in full force. Clean singing parts are excellent and the Death growls are superb in every way. I love when a band is in full control and understanding of what they are doing and trying to create. You get this album. A mature quality album without selling out their sound and their fans. TRUE melodic death metal. This album is just awesome. If you like progressive death metal then this is a must have album.

Rush is one of those great bands that knows how to put out a great live album. They proved that in the late '70s with 'All The World's A Stage' and proved it again in 1982 with 'Exit...Stage Left.'

This was recorded on the 'Moving Pictures' tour. Neil, Geddy and Alex jam here, just like on the previous live album, and perform concert classics like 'Tom Sawyer,' 'The Spirit of Radio,' and 'Xanadu' brilliantly.

'A Passage To Bangkok' is far superior to the studio version. This is just a great version, and this version was so good, Mercury put it on their 1992 compilation 'Chronicles.'

Overall, if you like Rush and great live records, than you'll love 'Exit.' It's a classic. And Mercury did a great job remastering this. In translation, the sound quality ... Read More

The Train of Thought Tour was arguably the strongest of DT's career. These songs really shine and can cave in the roof of a stadium. This is where the crowd can tear up the floor and rave. And James can RAP. Ridiculously powerful. Train of Thought RULES!!!

Killswitch is one of my favorites....I like End of Heartache more, but this one is still excellent....I bought it while waiting on the new Skinlab live cd, SkinnedAlive to come out...so I'll see if this one grows on me.

In a nutshell, Meshuggah are the heaviest metal band I have ever heard, and arguably the most sophisticated. Each of their albums has something to be said for it individually, but their style of being reliably unpredictable has kept up without being much different. It sounds strange, I know. It is a bizarre contradiction. In that way, stylistic differences between obZen and Meshuggah's previous records are subtle. The album shreds with tonal spikes, crushes with breakneck beats, and booms with growling vocals in the same way that the previous albums did. But now, they occasionally pull a hint of mysticism out of their bag of tricks. The difference is almost negligible.

But it doesn't tire me out. ObZen is the culmination of Meshuggah's style thus far. All of the band's good aspects are rolled into a single, compact ... Read More

Here is the ingredients needed to make an Opeth song. Anybody can do it, with decent music talent:

1. Really fast double bass drum tempo for a few seconds, accompanied by some pretty cool screaming, a creative device works the first ten times you hear it, then it's boring.

2. Slow, nondescript, instrumental acoustic guitar part for a few seconds or more.

3. Classic "kachung kachung" power chords played in a med. tempo, with normal sounding singing, for a few seconds or more.

4. Decent guitar solo, over any one of the above, for a few seconds or more.

Put those limited ingredients in a can, shake them out, and however they land is the next Opeth song. Every frickin song follow this exact same plan. Only difference is the order of the components. Pathetic, if your trying ... Read More

Having seen Nightwish both with Tarja and with Anette I can assure you they put on a good show. And if there was any doubt of that we now have the End of an Era CD and DVD releases. But to tell the truth while I've listened to this a few times it's never really called out to me from my CD shelves and demanded an airing.

That's not to say it's not got good production. It has. That's not to say it's not somewhat interesting to hear a few early Nightwish songs belted out live. It is. But only once or twice. After all a band with such thought out music and lyrically cerebral an attack isn't necessarily suited to the live album treatment. And while it's kinda weird and in fact pretty cool to hear the Gary Moore penned title track it's not enough to make it worth buying the whole album for given you can just download the thing on it's ... I just don't get Dream Theater. This is not very good songwriting if you ask me. Compared to any progressive rock band from the 70's, these guys can't compete with ANY of them. Putting Dream Theater in the same category as Yes, Genesis, Rush, or heck, even Kansas and Uriah Heep, is pretty laughable.

Occasionally some guitar tricks will catch my attention, but the vocal melodies leave me scratching my head and asking "What's so great about this?" I *really* want to know if people who are fans of Dream Theater ever seriously listened to artists like King Crimson, Yes, and early Genesis. Because THOSE are genius bands capable of memorable songwriting skills.

Track one on this album, which is 20 minutes long, is pretty boring. Some nice guitar tricks aside, and everything else is rather ordinary, and features a lead ... Read More

I couldn't believe how truly tenth rate the songs were. You call these memorable melodies/riffs? Original? It seems Dave's 'friends' are mental as well. If I were any of these people I'd ring up the authorities to complain about the lead in the water.
