I am very disappointed this album is not even on the list from the book of 100 albums you must hear before you die. This is just an awesome album by Orange County, CA punks. If you are someone interested in listening to great music this is a must and you don't have to be "into" punk. If you like good music you Will like it, I guaranty it. A classic must have for all fans of music.

Lemme tell you something about the Fugazi's. This is supposed to be their best record, so back in about 1991 I went to see 'em at my local college music venue which shall remain nameless, and has since been turned into an Arby's. Why do these guys have to be so serious? I know, I know you're from washington d.c, where Bill Clinton was born, but that don't mean you's so much smarter than the audience in said club/Arby's. On stage they was prattling on about how they didn't like how the crowd was so unruly. We's unruly because we don't have good jobs or much money from touring the country like you Fugazi's do. So as punishment to their fans, they stopped playin' after about 4 songs. It really didn't improve my attitude about their band or their music or washington dc.

Never heard of Sonic Youth? Feel free to start here... Love SY? Feel free to start here... Open with a tune-up of an old blues standard, Thurston style, melting into your anti-corporate riot-grrrit of Kim Gordon's career as a super-model. Thrash me, bash me, and soak me in sound. By the time I get to Track 4, I feel like a Drunken Butterfly swimming around in Kim's stomach as she chants "I love you, I love you, I love you... What's your name?" *vomit spews* - - - This is what happens when you give a constantly shifting force of music (Sonic Youth) a corporate record producer and tell them to please their growing fan base. They please us... but we're the last one's to hear about it. If you've listened to some other SY albums, don't expect to find a familiar friend in "Dirty", it truly stands apart. ... Read More

Here's a great story. Wayne Coyne, because he's crazy, got the completely random idea to line up a bunch of cars in a parking lot and play a bunch of cassettes in that bunch of cars. He discovered all of the cassette players played perfectly in sync with each other. Then he repeated the experiment using CD players instead of cassette players, and he discovered that no two CD are ever perfectly synchronized. Ever. So then he got a really crazy idea. He decided to mix an album in the least conventional way possible. He decided that he would divide the mix over the course of four CD's, so that way you got a different perspective of each song each time you listened to it on each separate CD. Ideally, you were supposed to take all four CD's (they packaged this as a quadruple album, by the way) and listen to them ... Read More

The first half is a welcome extension to their barebones, rustic Death Cab For Cutie style. It works in the songs favor and helps contrast the self-centered lyricist, who sometimes displays that rare technique of being a genuinely gripping songwriter, though more often seems to over-enunciate emotional intellectualism into self conscious realms, paired mostly in nasally, They Might Be Giants-esque singing tones which negates the overall synergy.

Hüsker Dü was formed in 1979 by guitarist Bob Mould, drummer Grant Hart, and bassist Greg Norton. In their early records, the band played hard core exclusively but gradually their sound changed towards alternative rock for the last albums.

In 1984 they released "Zen Arcade" and is a great album from start to finish. Nice balance of hard core, experimentation, and while this is only their second album, a few alternative rock style songs are featured and foreshadow the style of their later albums. Mould and Hart show great songwriting throughout. It's the type of album that gets better and better the more you listen to it.
The only thing that might put off some people is the 14 minute feedback jam "Reocurring Dreams" but it's not something typical from this band as this is the only time the ... Read More

This is a fantastic album. Steve Malkmus is a genius. On the original album there isn't one filler track, and the unreleased stuff is money. "Haunt You Down" might be the best Pavement song written, "Kennel District" is wicked catchy, and the demo for "Range Life" might be better than the released version. All in all this album ranks with OK Computer, the Soft Bulletin and the blue album in terms of quirky off the mark albums of the nineties.

Another original, incredible sound from R.E.M. (the Amazon review sums it up best). The album's songs on the whole evoke a certain longing, as fables told of the South, of a journey toward a destination a long ways away in "Driver 8," or of people like the dog catcher in "Old Man Kensey," or of the landscape in "Green Grow the Rushes." In style the album is so different from the album "Murmur," yet, thanks to the same incredible interplay of vocal harmonies with guitars and bass and drums and other instruments, just as evocative. All the songs are great, a couple of them having somewhat of a country feel, like "Can't Get There From Here" and "Wendell Gee."

The standout songs: Feeling Gravity's Pull, Maps and Legends, Driver 8, Life and How to Live It, and I'm just going list all of them if I keep going.

Another album ... Read More
