Not only do I love the music, but the pieces all have a curious, small and beautiful eerie echo, which seems to typify the genre of music from this period.

The rendering of these compositions is exquisitely, even creatively approached. Listening to it, the echo effect kind of gives it a gilded sheen or aura. It manages to accomplish really giving you a feeling of this period in time.

I was trying to be careful, listening to samples of the tracks before committing to buying, but I might not have listened to the right ones or maybe I didn't read the fine print. For some reason I had the impression these were old and traditional pieces of music: old meaning medieval, or thereabouts. Actually, most of them are modern, because the music (as opposed to the lyrics) has been composed relatively recently.

Despite the Latin lyrics, the beautiful voices, the slick production, and the overall air of antiquity and religiosity, I found I didn't enjoy the CD as much as I was hoping I would. The music is too unmelodic for me. At times it seems very harsh, dragging the singing along with it.

Anonymous 4 -- at least in A Mass for the End of Time -- is better.

I bought this album to explore more tracks by Hildegard after listening to one of her songs on an anthology. This music crosses centuries, languages, and religions, I feel. I am not a Christian, and the reason I listen to Georgian Chant is to study, because it focuses my thoughts exponentially. It completely drowns out the noise of the world and helps to gather my ideas. This did not get 5 stars because it wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted to hear tracks with a mixed gender choir but this album only goes from single male/male choir to single female/female choir, on alternating tracks.

This is still an excellent study aid and should be recommended for use as much as pencils and pens.

Very soothing and beautiful. Especially nice since it's in English and you can pray along with the chants.

I really don't know if this interpretation is just an orthodox one but its really an amazing interpretation indeed. In fact, if we are purist, it has no sense to play Bach or even Mozart with a modern piano, and I think it would be really tiring to hear them only played with a clavicord or a fortepiano.
This album brings you to medieval era. I recommend to hear it while reading a medieval era book (Cathedral of the Sea,Pillars of the Earth, etc). Great atmosphere!!

Heard this in concert at the Cloisters in New York. It confirms our belief that Lionheart is the best male early music group we have heard.

I am an opera fan and normally detest the sound of non-opera singers trying out their pipes on Mozart, Verdi, Rossini, Puccini, etc. I bought this disc years ago and it's been collecting dust. But since breaking it out, I can't stop listening. Nana's voice doesn't have the classical quality that I am used to from the likes of Kiri Te Kanawa and Mirella Freni, but she makes up for it with her unique style, although she gets a tad shrill on a couple of the songs. But considering she was about 55 when this was recorded it's amazing she still had such range and quality. The arrangements, orchestrations and chorus are breathtaking. Rodrigo's Concierto Aranjuez, with words, was a real surprise. The second movement has to be one of the all-time beautiful melodies ever written and what a perfect voice to sing it. Verdi's ... 100.Christus Natus Est: Early English Christmas from: Coro

Music : Christus Natus Est: Early English Christmas
Amongst the exhaustive catalogue of recordings devoted to Christmas music, this particular example - focusing on works written in England during the Middle Ages and Renaissance - can be warmly recommended indeed. The performances, as ever by this superb choir, are polished and beautifully executed, and the programme is varied both in terms of the selection of pieces (carols, motets, ballads, chant...) and also in the interpretations (usually choir or consort but sometimes 1 singer, occasionally accompanied by instruments - harp, lute, rebec/fiddle, drums). Furthermore, a number of the tracks constitute probably the best available performances of certain works (in particular 4, 9, 11 and 12).

From a purely academic viewpoint there are some musicological inaccuracies however, amongst which perhaps the most ... Read More
