Elephant is a pretty much perfect rock album. Jack really shows his musical range, how far he's willing to go how far he's willing to push that res-o-glass Airliner of his. This album is worth buying for "Ball And Biscuit" by itself, that song is seven minutes of pure blues/rock fury and it will never get old, its insane how much loud and how dynamic the guitar work is here. Jack really put his thing down this time. I love "Little Acorns" its like 80's vocals meets modern heavy metal, but comes off really smooth. I gotta say I think this is my favorite Stripes album. "Hypnotise" is a perfect dance rock song and definitely one of my top favorite songs ever. I've seen the Black Keys live twice and already know what a great show they put on. I've been in the front row both times so the DVD was a different experience. Dan's singing is great live, one thing I can't always hear real clear standing so close at their concerts. The one thing I didn't love was Dan's guitar seemed to have to much distortion during a couple songs. I know heavy distortion is Dan's bread and butter but I felt it took away from his riffs and sound quality on a couple songs. However I thought the distortion or power of the guitar on 'Remember When' didn't sound as good as it does on the actuall album. Overall the performance is great and my favorite was 'Stack Shot Billy' and then 'Busted' right afterward. The main reason I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 is the dissapointting extras. ... The Coasters "Down in Mexico" and the others are very good. I bought it for 3 songs and ended up enjoying the whole CD, I think you will also.

This album, it seems, will probably be regarded for a while as being a classic. I stand by my stance that I really don't care for negative reviews as much, because music is enjoyable to other people, that I can understand. But, this? Only if you were dead or in a coma. This infernal piece of _______ lacks everything that makes up music. Most people could easily just knock them for the fact they are derived, unimaginative music that doesn't have an ounce of creativity. I don't even know WHO influenced these clowns, as the fact they seem to have no inspiration in their music and don't take their influences and make an interesting, or a sound that sounds great and has a value to it. When speaking about the White Stripes people like to bandy about the label "garage rock revival" for a number of reasons including: they like to record on vintage equipment and prefer to use tube amps, they have a basic sound with two instrumentalists not trying to display disgusting virtuosity (while still gifted), Jack White has admitted they labeled themselves garage rock because the bands in the area that were most influential to them called themselves garage rock, they release their material on vinyl, and they recorded their first three albums for the garage punk's label in heaven Sympathy for the Record Industry (including this album).
