A unique taste in music, that is, let's at least agree on that. How anyone can call this the weakest of the Liquid Sould discography is beyond me. It doesn't really matter. If you like your horn-driven soul with more jazz than rap, more hooks than mindless honking, this is it. The fourth cut "Everybody's Got One," is worth the price of admission alone.

I really dont understand the negative reviews for this albulm. This is a great albulm by Liquid sould. Whether it is your first purchase from them or you just want to add it to your collection this is def worth your money. Compared to other "jam" or "funk" bands out their liquid sould is among the cream of the crop. No one has a sound like liquid soul. Love this group.

The rhythm section remains intact from "Rowdy Duty" with the other most noticeable difference is the absence of Jen Durkin's vocals. But has it really hurt them? I don't think so. This band can find a groove and make it bark like a dog. Go ahead and buy the disc; "Big Thing" is worth the price of admission alone.

I recommend this CD to anyone who likes jazz.
It's a kind of jazz I like very much, 'cause it's fast and has a good "swing". We have a couple of jazz bands here in Brazil wich plays something like the Liquid Soul style, but I confess Liquid Soul is my favorite at the moment. This CD is always in my car's CD player, and all my friends who have listened the cd approved it as well.

This is a amazing band that has been able to capture & combine all types of diffrent style's and elements into their music from salsa, cumbias, reggae, funk, and many other beats. Their diversity of music has started a new generation of music and people. If your someone who likes a mixture of all types of sounds this is a good cd to buy. My favorite song on this cd is souldier because the lyrics speaks the the truth. Only buy if you can handle it...

Here's the short review:

Stampede is less like a stampede and more like like a warm electronic oatmeal bath. The music is fine for background at the edgy cafe, but I kept waiting for Skerik or somebody to start ripping.

If you like Amoeba, you may like Stampede.

If you, as I do, prefer Host and Guest, skip it. There is no Mullet Cut, Critter's Theme, Brozo the Clown, or Communist Frankenstein Government Headset Earphone Radio Monster material on Stampede.

It had become apparent to The Meters that by the time of their Struttin' album their award winning funk sound was bordering on formulaic. So as any creative people will do The Meters decided to take their funk to a new place.'Cabbage Alley' consequently finds the band keeping their sound intact but changing a lot of their style and instrumentation. This album makes more of an effort to create coherant song structures and vocal arrangements. Another surprise is that especially on the driving "You've Got To Change (You've Got To Reform)" and "Stay Away" there's a prominant influence of the funk/acid rock fusion with loud drums and a grittier guitar sound-more in keeping with Sly,Jimi Hendrix and Funkadelic then Crescent City R&B. The feeling is kept throughout Neil Young's "Stay Away",which retains a lot of the country ... Read More
