I have never been a huge Black Crowes fan. I like them, I own a couple of their albums, but definitely would not call myself a diehard. Last week I went out and picked up "Warpaint" based on a suggestion from a friend, who IS a huge Crowes fan. I didn't expect much but after three listens I have to say..."Warpaint" blows me away. An absolutely fabulous release! It rocks, it slows down, it rocks again. Not a bad tune on it. I see the reviews on here giving 1, 2 or 3 stars and I just don't get it. This is their best release in over 15 years.

My favorites are "Daughters Of The Revolution" (what a great tune to kick off the album), "Wonded Bird" and "Locust Street" (I once lived on a Locust Street in Ohio, so this song is near and dear to my heart).

I'm telling ... Read More

Actually, about 3 1/2 stars.

But I attended a gazillion live performances in 2007 (and a few more in 2008)- from Pittsburgh to Hershey, Baltimore, Atlantic City, Rhode Island, Ohio, Chicago, Interlochen- and the recent, post-2001 material was well-done live, leaving its studio counterparts sounding relatively muddy and muted.

So I would suggest that one try to secure some of these live recordings, widely accessible via the Web.

It is absurd to hear 60-year-old men performing "Some Girls" and "Little T&A." Their first round of kids almost are as old as they were when they wrote these songs. They know what they're doing, that's fo sho, but very little about this is truly intimate or remotely creative. I'd love to hear this lot pick up a bunch of R&B songs they'd barely played and have a go, but everything is geared to making the maximum buck so the spontaneity and creativity are histor-y. There is no comparison to "Ya Ya's," and even "Still Life" is better because at least they mattered back then and were still pushing the culture at least a little. As for "Ya Ya's," they were the culture then, the very tip of it, the best band on the orb. They may be the best band for their age right now, maybe. The whole Scorcese thing, clearly ... Read More

As a big Whitesnake fan,I had high hopes and was so happy when this new album came out. However,I only liked 1 song only, which is "All I Want all I Need".I thought the rest weren't any good.I should have just got the 1 song from I tunes.

Back in the very early days of what was the called Rock & Roll, guys like Elvis and Bill Haley and the Comets, "Rock" was kind of a big band boogie kind of affair. For me at least it wasn't really Rock until a little trio from Texas came along called Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Rock was pared down to its bones, a bass, a guitar and drums, with edgy lyrics that people didn't know exactly what to do with.

In that fine tradition came this little band from Texas, and a new generation of Tex Rock was born. After its release, Tres Hombres was the one album that always got played at any party I went to in High School, and all the guys thought of themselves as Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. At one dance at my school, the band was playing "La Grange" and I didn't like the way the vocalist was singing, ... Read More

Score one more for Rhino. This label really does know how to find obscure cuts and bring them into standout various artist collections. The only gripe I could have is this disk sounds a bit monaural in a mix, but I'll still use it--it's fun to mix up a little blues with the typical sugary Christmas sentiment.

What can I say about this collection that has not been said? Just add Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat and the rest of the crew in and you've got a mix that'll make your season funky.

I bought the compilation for"No One to Depend On" snd found every cut worth while. The drumming is awesome and Greg Rolle(later of Journey) is great on the early tracks keyboards. This is the best of an iconic classic rock artist.

This should be called "Promise Kept"! At times it evokes BBK, the ABB, SRV, Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Lang, and more. But it's all John Mayer. I downloaded this last night and then bought the CD this morning. This grabbed me from the first song, and gave me shivers. First new CD to get me excited in a long time. If you like good blues rock guitar, don't hesitate. If you like his pop songs, I can't help you. If you ever wondered why EC invited John Mayer to the Crossroads Guitar Festival, this should put that to rest. In case you could not tell, I really liked this. This one is destined to get worn out in all my players. Nice....

33 songs for under 20 bones! Does it get any CHEAPER? While most hardcore fans won't find much in this set that they don't already have, this is perfect for new listeners. AT that price who can pass it up? I know I sure did!
There is a mix of material here, including live performances, and the sound is excellent. So sit back, crack open a cold one, and crank it to 11. The neighbors will be putting their ear to the WALL. I love online shopping! Gotta go, the MARTians just arrived in their spaceship. That's a bold statement. Wink Wink! ;)
