This will definitely be a very polarizing album. Third seems to have more in common with NIN's esoteric offerings than any previous Portishead music. It's certainly a very interesting album, for sure. Very interesting. But the warm, muddy, groovyness that was Portishead is gone. Totally absent are any sort of bassy beats and trip-hop rhythms. There's none of that. Even spy guitars are on short order. Trip hop has died, and instead of trying to revive that sound for risk of beating a dead horse, they've again created a type of music which does not exist. This time it's cold, off-putting and alienating. It's too strange and well thought-out to suck, but too appallingly creepy to be considered good by most people. Having read a good number of professional and pseudoprofessional reviews I was convinced to add my two cents. Those looking for an artistic statement on the level of Reckoning or Document or AFTP are going to be rudely disappointed. Accelerate just doesn't get there. It's not even as cohesive or dramatic a band piece as Monster. But it DOES represent the band getting their chops back and rediscovering the fun of live music, albeit on tape (or however they burn masters nowadays). Those looking for melody and hooks will also be somewhat disappointed, but the sheer VERVE these fellas bring to the table for this outing is really cool. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CD. THE ARTIST HAS A SOOTHING AND BEAUTIFUL VOICE. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE CD TO ANYONE. I WILL BE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING HER NEXT ALBUM.

Ten years after his last great, or even good, CD, ECHO, Tom Petty has finally made another masterpiece by reuniting his pre-Heartbreakers band, Mudcrutch. If this band had succeeded in the beginning, Petty's music would have been the link between West Coast country-rock and Southern boogie-rock. It's nice to see a rock superstar go back to his roots, and moreover, Petty's advocacy of sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist makes MUDCRUTCH an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

Steve Winwood is of course a Rock icon and has been around for years. He has had hits with the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and of course as a solo act. When you mix this all together this CD shows you what you might some up with. I'm not drowning is a great blues tune and a perfect song to open a CD with. I wish we saw this side of Stevie more often. Fly is another song that reminds me of Traffic Dirty City is the best song on the CD and features a guitar solo by long time friend Eric Clapton. I wish we could hear more Clapton and Winwood together. As the title says, its one of his better efforts but not his best....

this album is so bad that I donated it to the goodwill. hopefully someone will buy it for $1.00 and enjoy it more than I did. what happened to mariah??? she was once so good at her craft and now it's just so downhill.
