I haven't read enough about this album to know why these two ended up together (surely it's written up somewhere), but it is surprisingly an amazing collaboration. Someone gave the CD to me as a gift. I put it on and started cleaning the house, listening with half an ear. And somewhere on the album, I don't remember exactly where, I simply sat down and listened. And I didn't get up again for a while. It's like that. It stills you. It quiets you. It forces you to be aware.

Gone, Gone, Gone is my favorite song on the album, by the way. It's the song you'll play over and over in the car until you've reached your destination. And then, when you get to where you were going, you'll click it back again so that when you get in the car next time, the song will just be starting ... Read More

Great writing as always, and the vocals are gorgeous. Troubled Times gives goosebumps. Suzanne Vega and Dar sound perfect together on Go the the Woods. What a talented artist!

At the end of "Glass Onion" is when you know you are in for something unique and special from the Beatles on The White Album. The end of the song features a slow, piercing violin meshed with a "dink, dink, dink" sound that prepares the listener by saying "Okay, we are going to do something different and we are going to lay it all on the line for you, so be ready." Although I believe Revolver to be the quintessential Beatles album because of its mastery of the balance of art and pop, I believe The White Album to be the very best Beatles album of them all because it has aged the best. Paul himself said, "It stood up, but it wasn't a pleasant one to make." Admit it, Sgt. Pepper sounds like a 1967 album, (which doesn't necessarily hinder its greatness) but The White Album does not sound like a 1968 ... Read More

As some reviewers have pointed out, this album might be a disappointment for those who are deeply in love with the 90's Ani.
It's much like To The Teeth, Revelling/Reckoning, Knuckledown or Reprieve (specially very similar to this one), but actually a lot more future-oriented, sonically fairly innovative, tight and song-by-song perfectly crafted.
I'd like to say which songs are my favourites, but.. I can't mention none in particular.
I love The Atom, Emancipated Minor, and the three first: Red Letter Year, Alla This and Present/Infant. But all the songs of this excellent album are truly standouts.

They were my parents albums and my girlfriends and I would put them on when we got home from school. It was always sunny out--this was Southern California, the years of endless draught. We'd take off our flip flops and sing along word for word. My parents had these wooden sticks that you'd clack together to make "music." We used them for microphones, belting it out as loudly as we could.
Sometimes we'd do homework, our books spread about the floor in front of the fireplace. We'd sing quietly, working on math, then belt it out again at the chorus. When my parents came home, they'd come in the living room and my mother would sing harmony. My dad couldn't sing. But he'd take our "microphones" away and clack them together keeping the beat and bouncing his head like a bobble-head toy.
These songs ... Read More

"Rubber Soul" is a great album. It consists of catchy, unpretentious British Invasion pop songs and you really don't think it would be that good but it is. The only song I dislike is "Drive My Car," but everything else can be listened to over and over. Slower, more contemplative songs like "Nowhere Man" and "Norwegian Wood," sweet love songs like "In My Life" and "Michelle," jangly pop "If I Needed Someone," and more aggressive numbers like "Run for Your Life." This album is just plain solid all the way through.

The Beatles 1 is a one CD collection spanning The Beatles entire carerr on 27 tracks, all the songs on here were singles and all went too number one at one time. A pretty good collection good for anyone starting out on the beatles but i dont think it covers all the good beatles songs. For instance there is no songs from Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band it is missing a lot of songs but still its pretty good
