love the Broadway CD. love Double Standards. But i dont get this CD...pretty bad sound, bad editing, and the main problem (for me) is Lea herself. i like Lea. have every CD. go see her when she's performing in clubs and on stage (adam & steve etc)...but this Smoke session just doesnt cut it. Ain't that good. we've (i & my wife) played it a few times now, and it dont get better. i bought the album without giving it a listen. hey i thought, it's a Lea. IT AIN'T!!!

I saw these guys perform live about 10 years ago in college live and they were amazing. It's sad to listen to the CD after the death of the lead singer when I was able to see him in person perform "Everything Possible". What a powerful and emotional song. Wish I knew what the group was up to now.

This is a very funny CD! It really relates to what my wife and I experience in our daily lives! The bit about going to Home Depot for shopping made my wife look at me and say that describes me perfectly! Very funny clean humor - I would recommend this CD.

There's a genuine caring-warmth to Ms Kate's humor that has always made it an art that communicates with love and respect for the audience. I love how she points out the distinction between GOT to be gay and GET to be gay--it's the distinction between HAVING to be a person and GETTING to be a person and it applies to everyone everywhere--it's the thing the nazi's of every stamp (here and now, there and then) hate, fear and deny, and a lot of people go along with them out of fear and failure to BE a person. Thank you Ms Kate for your inspiration. Oh, and yes it's GREAT to have this Birchmere gig on cd: you can put it on and wash the dishes, fold the laundry...

5.Absurd Pop Song Romance by: Pansy Division

Music : Absurd Pop Song Romance
I'm a little late to the party as far as this CD is concerned, but ever since I bought it I haven't removed it from my CD player. This is pure power pop -punk perfection, with the heavy bass and drums and crunchy riffs you might expect from an Albini produced album, but the sharp musicianship is all Pansy Division. They get a lot of attention for their cheeky, gleefully filthy lyrics, but this recoding seems to highlight them more as musicians, with the lyrics - although still clever and occasionally risque - taking second place. And these guys can play - dear lord, they'll kick your butts. There's almost no skippable tracks on this CD - you can just let it play. Yes, lyrically it's more serious and slightly downbeat than their previous albums, but it's still fantastic stuff.

Everyone's bound to have quibbles with a collection such as this one. I would much prefer to have Mabel Mercer's version of "Ballad of the Sad Young Men," for instance (although Rod McKuen's is lovely), and I regret the absence of certain gay "standards" such as Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes" and Dusty Springfield's "Quiet, Please, There's a Lady on Stage." But it's all fun, not mention educational, and I'm grateful to Marshall Blonstein and Richard Oliver for a magnificent effort, which is destined to take its place next to classics of the literature such as William J. Mann's "Behind the Screen" and "The Gay and Lesbian Literary Heritage"--not to mention the collected works of Barbara Streisand! To underscore their sense of history, the producers have included a near-100 page booklet with the ... Read More

I heard Suzanne once on HBO comedy hour recently and LOVED her!! I've never heard a les woman who just kept it real regardless of what topic. After seeing & hearing her I plan to purchase every cd/book she's ever done. She's quite talented and needs way more exposure.

8.The Smell of Our Own by: The Hidden Cameras

Music : The Smell of Our Own
I have to say, I bought this album after hearing about them somewhere (I can't even remember where or how). I read the reviews here on Amazon and thought I'd give The Hidden Cameras a shot. With reviewers claiming "The feel good album of the summer," and "infectious," and "album of the year," and, "the songs on this CD are so damn good. Every single one of them." I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Well, I figured wrong.

I don't get the hype. I find the music on the boring side. It feels like background music more than a stand out album that must be heard (as most of the reviewers claim). Maybe the hype is generated around the fact that many of the songs are about homosexuality. But I hope not, because I'm gay, and these songs don't represent me or my way of living. "Golden streams running ... Read More

I've had the honor of singing some of the arrangements on this recording and they are astonishing.
It should be reissued and made available as it is a rousing collection of new looks at old carols.
