The selections chosen are, for the most part, to my taste, but the volume is comprised of fewer supurb selections, such as those masterpieces by Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart that were found in Vol. I.

I find Maurice Ravel's music among the most unique and wonderful of the twentieth century. It marks the sublime marriage of pensive impressionism with--and many music scholars might disagree with me on this matter--a vibrant late-romanticism. There are few collections that highlight this grandness with as much clarity as this album. The vividness of Ravel's orchestral coloring and the complexity of his polyphony can make the performance of any of his works a sizeable challenge for the finest of orchestras--the slightest miscalculation in dynamic, timing, or articulation can result in entire voices being lost in a mass of sound, but the Montreal Symphony do a flawless job. I agree with the other reviewer I found most of the music to be too up beat for falling asleep, and my problem is staying asleep, not falling asleep. Some of the music made my heart race and then I could not fall sleep. I tried this CD 4 times before calling it quits. I would not recommend this CD. I have resulted to using my very loud air purifier as white noise so that as I sleep the street sounds do not wake me up, but recently someone recommended to me trying a Homedics SoundSpa machine, which has all kinds of natural sounds for background noise when sleeping. I may try it. I hope this review helps.

This is an amazing CD. I recommend it highly for reading on a rainy day, relaxing, or just reading the paper on a Sunday morning. It's one of my top 10 relaxation CDs.

This two disc CD contains much great peaceful music some of which you may had heard before. It is well worth adding to anyones classical music collection. Play this at the end of a hectic day and appreciate how music really can help calm you down.

I cannot rate this disc because I don't own it, but thought I would offer a warning based on hearing other works by this pianist. If Mr. Roge's interpretaion of Ravel is anything like his take on Debussy piano music, be wary of spending money on this disc. Mr. Roge's playing of Debussy is superficially correct, but lacks the depth and subtlety this delicate music requires. My advice would be to look elsewhere first.

I really enjoy listening to this album. I love music composed during the Romantic Era (Composers such as Chopin, Rachmaninov, Borodin etc...) However, I may not like all of Borodin's works but this album is just perfect. It has the best of those composers. Good music to listen to when you're away on a vacation/retreat to just get away from the busyness of life.

Being a fan of classic music as well of a fan of electronic music, this album blew me away, I often play this CD when I want to create a relaxed atmosphere and I know for a fact that 4 friends of mine have bought the CD after listening to it here with me. Xerxes and Cavalleria rusticana are sublime achievements of production. Mr. Orbit, "Hello waveforms" is great but you should take time to produce a second CD of pieces in a modern style. PS: It's the perfect gift for classic music lovers, you can't expect them to have it and they'll love it for sure

I met Erquiaga during the "Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp" in 2005. The camp is rather traditional style Jazz camp and more focused on improvising. I am a guitar player and Erquiaga was our combo teacher. We had three sax players, a piano, drums, an upright bass, and a guitar. You get the idea... I found him an excellent Jazz music educator. And I also found him as a great jazz guitar player after seeing him playing during the faculty concert. The camp is all about Jazz. After the camp is over, I did some web search to find any Erquiaga's CD and I found this one. Without thinking much nor reading about it I just ordered it.
