This is an amazing record that showcases James Brown and His Famous Flame at the top of their game in the Apollo theatre in New York City. It was initially released by King records which was well known at the time for working with many black entertainers. However, the story goes that Syd Nathan, the founder of King Records, never wanted this album made. James Brown though, was particularly dedicated to having this record made, as he apparently felt that the live show that he brought rolling into town had never been properly commited to an LP. I myself was lucky enough to see JB live before he passed, and I can certainly tell you, there's nothing like being there. But being there in 1963, when the black population must surely have been feeling that the times were indeed a-changing; well that ... Read More

With a smorgasbord of backup musicians from both the soul and rock fields and a thunderously approving audience, Delaney and Bonnie create a high-energy, electrifying, live event whose recording the listener will blast and imagine himself there. With the funky opening licks of "Things Get Better," you know you're in for an exuberant ride. In between the breakneck-speed soul-rockers "I Don't Want to Discuss It" and "Where There's a Will, There's a Way," Bonnie sings her heart out on the slow churner "That's What My Man is For" The desperately jubilant road song "Comin' Home" closes the set, and the audience is bellowing. Delaney and Bonnie close out with an electrifying medley of Little Richard covers.

This, my friends, is a perfect example of why live albums were invented. Sure, it would ... Read More

I came across this by accident while searching for another band. Twenty nine tracks, and at least 27 are brilliant. Everyone in my family loves this album. What a lineup of stars! (and NO kid rock, no rappers!) Tastefully Done!

Laura Nyro's "Gonna Take A Miracle" is one of the greatest albums you never heard of. I bought this album when it first came out in 1971, and played it for everyone I knew: all my black friends hated Laura's voice, and my white friends hated the background vocals (by the incomparable LaBelle, long before "Lady Marmalade"). My friends, they didn't get it. But like the Hendrix song, "I Don't Live Today", Laura Nyro dropped this album for the future, when black and white would not be seen as opposites, but as complements, trading riffs, and not caring who sings lead, if the music grooves. Like Stanley Ann Dunham, Laura Nyro died of ovarian cancer, much too soon to see that her romanticism, like all love, never dissipates, but forever recreates in another place and time. Laura's one child did not become president, ... Read More

I wanted to order this CD for my wife's birthday but could not get it delivered in time from an English e-tailer. But amazon.com came up trumps on price and delivery.

The CD arrived in time for my wife's birthday and she loved it. She has stopped playing it since.

Thank you so much for great service.

As Mr Garabaldi said "Don't buy this if you're expecting a mixed studio product...this is raw..."garage" all the way"
The point is it really doesn't matter we have a window into early Tower of Power and just this should be enough and lets not forget that this from a personal collection. We should be grateful for it or it could be languishing in a cupboard somewhere waiting to be found. Come on guys!!!!
5 stars whatever the audio quality!

I remember getting this and expecting The Miseducation part 2. Well sort of. After all, it is called "Unplugged" which let's you know there's gonna be quite a bit of acoustics. I just wasn't aware of how much would be acoustic. Lauryn is by far my favorite female artist, and she never ceases to amaze me. She's a very interesting and intelligent human being, and has a great sense of humor to top it off. She's one of my all time favorite singers, and all time favorite lyricists. There have been endless lyrics and poems that more than move me, but none have as much as hers. Ever since I was a kid, I've had a view on life that not too many people understand. After falling in love with the Fugees, I decided to get some of their solo joints, and the first time I listened to Lauryn's debut I found someone that sees, and feels ... Read More
